Challenging the status quo of societies relationship with readiness one more capable individual at a time.
I am a strong believer that with the right informal network that marries unconventional actors with the right top cover within the national security ecosystem, we can fundamentally adapt and positively disrupt the beleaguered practices of the #nationalsecurity community in the next decade. Force modernization entails revamped educational pipelines, greater civ mil cross pollination and a drastic rebranding of what it means to be of service. We must rekindle a national sense of purpose, and duty to engage broader swaths of everyday entrepreneurial and tech talent and everyday movers and shakers. The challenges of today demand a whole of community effort and we will find the cohesion, camaraderie and purpose that will help us to address one of the greatest threats to our national security, domestic divisiveness, by coming together to alter how we function as a nation through our national security apparatus. Community is the ultimate currency and weapon for good. I am immensely proud to be working with an organization and community that I think has the chops, capacity and buy-in to make this a reality. The Defense Entrepreneurs Forum is a unique beast in its informal, guerrilla nature. The disparate community of stakeholders from across that national security, civil service, NGO, academic, tech and funding arenas that converge and collide in #DEF have, and will continue to play a material role in positively disrupting the status quo. Its an honor to be able to serve at the helm of the org. Hear from a number of community members that came to #DEF2023 to include Clint Hinote Jay Long, Jon Margolick, Meagan Metzger, Jen Sovada, Victoria Virasingh, Brad Halsey and Joshua Marcuse on the importance of informal networks in the national security sphere. As a collective community we have accomplished introducing "innovation" as a concept into the national security arena. Innovation Officers, AFWERX, Hacking for Defense® (H4D), Shift.org are emblematic of the organizations, programs of record and the general groundswell of design facilitators, forward leaning enlisted and even a number of senior officers providing top cover to instigators within the ranks that have materialized over the past decade. What do we do with this capacity? How do we take "innovation" from a thing that happens in isolation by aberrant actors and weave it into the educational pipelines and cultural fabric across the force so it becomes a natural and inherent part of force doctrine? Informal networks have played an important role in facilitating the progress that has been made in challenging the status quo. But the question is now what? Hear from Clint Hinote, Jen Sovada, Joshua Marcuse, Meagan Metzger and a few other #DEF community members address the continued need for informal networks, and the small role organizations like DEF might play in continuing to forge a reimagined approach to readiness, deterrence and overall national security efforts. Its time to think about how we might leverage the #virtuousinsurgency for more direct action and positive impact. 🌐 Innovation is crucial, especially when it comes to national security. Informal networks are essential to the type of change that is needed. Don't miss out on what Defense Entrepreneurs Forum and its community members are doing to inspire and foster a disruptive, connected, and collaborative culture of innovation in the national security community. #virtuousinsurgency

I will go as far to say that DEF is critically vital to national security! Imagine any scenario where the world goes sideways (war, disasters, political upheavals) and members within the DEF are already there helping and shaping. We are first on the scene to almost everything whether it be a war or the forefront of emerging tech. Within hours of a global conflagration you can bet members of the DEF community are already on planes to get ground truth and provide assistance while using emergent tech to dynamically solve problems. Members of the DEF community just GET SHIT DONE regardless of the hurdles of bureaucracy, politics, resources, and logistics. And the DOD should spend a lot more time listening, watching, and adopting how the DEF behaves. #operatorsofinnovation
