Resilience is an all too familiar concept to those living with rare diseases and to those in the LGBTQ community. The stigma faced by both communities is significant, but when combined, it has an even greater impact. Researchers have found that the stigma associated with rare diseases (like stares or unkind comments) are magnified when that person is also LGBTQ. In this Voices of Rare interview, SCD patient advocate Tristan Lee gives us a glimpse of what that stigma is like and how he has overcome it. #voicesofrare #rarediseaseawareness

Bonus points if you can find Charlie's tail in the pic... #serviceanimal Over the weekend I had the super duper privilege of leading a workshop at an event hosted by LGBTQ Saves. I got to hang out in a room full of LGBTQ youth and their parents to talk about the intersections of neurodivergency and the queer community. In case you didn't know, the intersection is massive. Why does it matter?? Because neurodivergent humans and queer humans are both at a *much* higher risk of suicide. How do those statistics looks when this double-minority exists? Not good. (Did you know that Autistic children are 28x more likely to attempt suicide than their neurotypical peers?) So, if you need me, I'll be leading as many workshops, talks. coaching sessions, and consulting meetings about how to support the neurodivergent community - especially as it intersects with the queer community. #AutisticAdult #AutisticSpeaker #AutisticResearcher

NEXT WEEK! Understanding Conversion Therapy - LIVE event with Hannah Creedon. Have you ever asked yourself the question, what actually IS conversion therapy? Many therapists associate conversion therapy with radical practices, religious camps and/or extreme violence. In reality, conversion therapy can happen without us even realising it , and this can have an incredibly damaging psychological impact on LGBTQ clients and the wider LGBTQ community. You can join in LIVE or purchase the recording. Use the link below to choose. https://buff.ly/45GUCZi.. #therapistsConnect #training4therapists #counselling
