Montgomery County Judge Keough shared an update today Tuesday, July 9 at 10:15am on power restoration, cooling centers and shelters. Notes from the update: - 80% Montgomery County is still without power - Sources at Entergy: “Their focus is transmission so they can get their systems up and get the distribution going. They are focusing on the highest concentration of population in order to reach the most amount of people in the shortest amount of time. They believe they will have about 50% of customers up by tomorrow evening, and that by the end of this week Montgomery County should be in pretty good shape overall as it relates to power.” - Cooling Centers: - 600 Gerald Street, Willis, TX (North Montgomery County Community Center) - Settings others up – will let you know - Emergency Shelters currently open: - Lone Star Community Center – 2500 Lone Star Pkwy, Montgomery 77356 (150 capacity) - West County Community Development Center – 31355 Friendship Drive Magnolia 77355 (150 capacity) - East Montgomery County Community Development Center – 16401 1st St. 77372 (150 capacity) - Sts. Simon And Jude Catholic Church – 26777 Glen Loch Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77381 - Clearing Roads: “We are doing everything we can to accommodate this situation. Texas A&M Forest Service has sent saw teams to help our Commissioners in cutting wood and vegetation that has fallen onto the roads. #FieldNotes: After destroying more than 2,500 homes and businesses, the largest recorded wildfire in Oregon state history left multiple communities along Highway 99 looking to recover. Known as the Bear Creek Greenway, the region came together as part of a unique area action plan with unified goals. With input directly from community advisory committees, the revisioning process positioned the corridor to come back even stronger than before the Almeda Fire. "It’s unusual to do long-range planning for multiple jurisdictions…Following the Almeda Fire, the unique goals of each community impacted were addressed with project advisory committees to create a unified corridor revisioning." From Salisbury, to Baltimore, to Frederick, all Marylanders deserve to get around safely, reliably, and affordably. Wherever we live across the state, we want our communities to be inclusive and vibrant. Our transportation system plays a key role in making that happen.   But the Maryland Department of Transportation - influenced by the asphalt and road-building industry -- continues to pour OUR tax dollars into expanding roads and widening highways.
