The current laws often treat freelancers like regular businesses or gig workers for platforms. In 2024, 75% of respondents to the Freelancer Study still say that politicians are not creating the right framework conditions. Only 9% have no problem with this, while 16% avoid the question. But why is this? And why do we keep getting a negative answer to this question from freelancers year after year? Quite simply because too little is changing. Freelancing involves bureaucracy, fixed deadlines, and risk, since insurance is up to the individual. Permanent employees don't face these issues. Some might say, "It's their own fault; they chose this path." But is the solution really to make self-employment an unattractive career option - especially when 89% would choose self-employment again? We believe there is a better way. Freelancing is the backbone of tomorrow's workforce. See what others think about this topic in our newest study (link in the comments). What do you think? Are politicians creating the right framework conditions? I remember when someone asked what I did and I said I was a freelancer. He laughed and said that means I was unemployed🤷♀️. It was a bit funny about what people understood about freelancing. Let's take a look about the common assumptions made about freelancing. 📌Lack of Stability: It's a common misconception that freelancers have trouble finding employment all the time and have inconsistent sources of income, which makes them seem unemployed. 📌 Lack of Professionalism: When compared to regular employees who operate in office environments, freelancers may be perceived as less dedicated or professional. 📌Inconsistent Work Ethic: People sometimes believe that freelancers lack the discipline and work ethic necessary to consistently provide high-quality work by deadlines. 📌Low Skill Level: It's a common misperception that independent freelancers have lower skill levels than regular workers, which raises the possibility that the quality of their work may be lower. 📌Unreliable Availability: People can believe that independent contractors are not easily reachable or available for cooperation or communication, which could cause delays or make work more difficult. 📌Limited professional Growth: It's a common misconception that regular employees, who could have promotion routes and hierarchical systems, have more options for professional growth and progress than freelancers. 📌 Incapacity to Manage Big Projects: There is a misconception that independent contractors are better suited for smaller, less complicated tasks than larger, more involved ones. It's important to understand that these presumptions are frequently false and fail to take into account the variety of talents, professionalism, and commitment that independent contractors bring to their jobs. Are you a freelancer? Have you had experience with any of these assumptions? Let me know in the comments 👇👇 #freelance #freelancers #freelancerlife

It's no secret that the job market has seen a sudden surge in freelancers. We see it here on LinkedIn: Someone posts a call out, and a sea of freelancers shortly flood the comment section. Whilst it's good that there are more opportunities for freelancers on a previously rigidly corporate platform, it is somewhat of an unhealthy balance when the influx is so big. A recent UK research study into the freelance market revealed that freelancers make up a larger part of the UK workforce than the UK's biggest employer (NHS)! This article by SussexWorld was an interesting read as it touched on the way that freelancers are still unprotected despite the increase in people becoming freelancers: https://lnkd.in/eejkzD2K #freelancewriter #freelancing #freelancelife ---- Subscribe to my newsletter for freelance news, tips and stories from other freelancers: https://lnkd.in/dmqrkeD

The difference between freelancers and self-employed people in Germany 🇩🇪 ☑ Those interested in freelancing in Germany should note that the difference between freelancing and "self-employment/business" is very slight. Therefore, freelancers in Germany should ensure that their considered activity does not fall under the self-employment category. ☑ Remember that in both activities, you are not an employee of anyone and are the sole decision-maker regarding your providing services. Although these two activities are very similar, they are still different. ☑ The main difference is that freelancers in Germany do business under their name, while self-employed people do business in Germany under a brand. ☑ In legal procedures terms, freelancers do not need to register with the German Trade Office (Gewerbeamt). However, self-employed people cannot start their activity without a business registration. ☑ Note that freelancers pay lower taxes than self-employed people or merchants. 📌 Contact us for more information. 🇩🇪 Wise Business Group (WBG) 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eQ6fXJy 📞 4915786312323 WhatsApp: https://lnkd.in/eRhcdic #freelance #freelancing #freelancers #freelancejobs #freelancework #selfemployment #selfemployed #business #businessregistration #businesstaxes #germanybusiness #germanyimmigration #germany #germanyvisa

😎 So, why do people become *freelancers*? I really enjoyed this article exploring the benefits as well as the economic value of freelancers! ✔️*freedom* - to scale their operations and extend their reach both nationally and internationally without the constraints of traditional employment structures ✔️ *flexibility* - to allow them to balance work with personal life, pursue passions, and work in a manner that aligns with their individual values and lifestyle ✔️*social impact* - to make a meaningful impact on society and fulfill personal aspirations The article concludes that freelancers should not be seen as a “marginal sector of the workforce but as integral contributors to the dynamism of the UK economy” and I couldn’t agree more When I started Obelisk Support | B Corp Certified to create freelance flexible jobs for lawyers with caring responsibilities to help them stay in the workforce, the common wisdom was that lawyers only became freelancers because they couldn’t cut it in private practice and their quality was often questioned, which always made me very sad Thankfully, this view has shifted as people move in and out between perm roles and freelance roles in a pretty harmonious way - this gives people so many news skills, beyond law, and, importantly, keeps people in work! The future of work is freelance and fractional, for those in more senior roles, as the market has adapted to new ways of working and new tech - the focus should be on policy embracing not on rejecting the trend! If you freelance now - or you freelanced before - what were your reasons? #freelance #futureofwork #flexiblework #remotework #freelancelawyers

Can’t you just get a job? Found this white paper “What if there were no freelancers?” at The_Trackbr today. It looks at the role that Freelancers play in the economy, their value and what more could be done to promote this important segment. There are an estimated 2 million freelancers in the UK, and of these, 15% are working mums (Data from 2022, so I’d wager it’s getting higher). There are stories from 6 freelancers giving their experience, including me! Totally forgot I contributed to this over a year ago. My main point on why I enjoy freelancing was around the agility to work across different projects and put things in place quickly. You’re more adaptable and can provide bespoke solutions. This still stands today. That and the fact that I love the working relationships built with my clients. It’s unique and only you can bring that same value to a partnership. There’s definitely still work to do to get the protection and support that freelancers need and to raise the profile as a career choice. What do you think? #Freelancers #FlexibleWorking #WorkingMums

Non-payment is a huge problem for freelancers, and it's critical to address this unfair culture. Late or missing payments can devastate a freelancer's financial stability and cause significant stress. Organizations that lure freelancers with initial payments and then vanish are unethical and disrespectful. Freelancers deserve financial security just like any other worker. They rely on their income to meet their commitments. The effort a freelancer puts into a project deserves fair compensation, regardless of their employment status. Some employees do freelance for part time but for some, it is the only way of earning. #freelancing #freelancer #workfromhome #remotework #freelancersupport

#JMLFunFact Thinking about making the leap to freelance life? Here's some food for thought: Choice, not Chance: Over half of freelancers chose this path, proving it's a viable career option, not just a Plan B. Career Growth & Higher Income: Nearly 60% of Americans in freelance roles left traditional jobs to pursue their passions and achieve greater financial success. And it's paying off - 78% reported exceeding their previous salaries within the first year! Unmatched Satisfaction: Freelancers overwhelmingly say they wouldn't trade their freedom and flexibility for anything. #hustle #onlinework #onlinejobs #va #virtualassistants #virtualassistantservices #virtualassistantlife #virtualassistantforhire #virtualassistantbusiness #digitalnomads #virtualworkers #freelancepeople #virtualjobs #lookingtohire #jmlvas #jmlfreelancers #jml

Freelancers, also known as independent contractors, gig workers, or solopreneurs and even self employers play a vital role in various industries, offering their skills and expertise on a project basis. This day serves as a reminder to appreciate the flexibility, innovation, and talent that freelancers bring to the workforce. International Freelancers' Day is a celebration of the spirit of independence and entrepreneurship. It acknowledges the hard work, dedication, and creativity of freelancers who often juggle multiple projects and clients simultaneously. Freelancers' ability to adapt to changing market demands and their commitment to delivering high-quality work make them invaluable assets to businesses (large and small). Despite the many advantages, freelancers face challenges such as job security, fluctuating income, and lack of employment benefits. International Freelancers' Day also raises awareness about the need for fair labor practices, adequate compensation, and support systems for freelancers to thrive in their careers. As we celebrate International Freelancers' Day, it is essential to recognize the invaluable role freelancers play in the global economy and society.
