Can you stay productive while travelling? Here's How I do it ↓ After 6 weeks in the US, today I return to the UK. For me, Travelling is a 3-day process. Day Before - packing, organising flight information, transport arrangements, timings, and normally, this all happens very late at night or in the early morning of travel day! Travelling Day - Finishing up packing, getting to the airport, going through the airport, the flight, and the travelling back home. (Lost Day) Day After Travelling - Recovering from the above. That's 3 days out of commission! Inevitably, you won't be as productive during this period as you normally would be. Tired, with no wifi connection fueled by airplane food. Here's how I overcome this 1. Batch content I have drafts ready of all my content, read to go so I can post and not have to worry about creating anything and allow myself the time to relax and let my business do the work for me. 2. Automation My business runs on auto. As soon as anyone signs up to my email list, purchases any products or sends me an email, no leads are left without their product or a reply. 3. Share this with my audience Why not actually tell the companies and people that you work with that you're going away BEFORE you get an email saying 'out of office' People like to know about your life so share your journey! As we speak, I'm on my way to the airport but guess what, I wrote this post 2 days ago 👀 Don't let life get in the way of building what you want. Early start today as I make my way by train to Day 2 of the Smart Transport National Conference in Birmingham. Just over a year ago I took action to wean myself off ‘taxi to the train’ thinking for solo business travel. And I’m weaned - zero taxis on work trips from / to home. Today, given taking a 6am train, I feared public transport wouldn’t be an option but no, the first bus of the day (and a First Bus come to think of it) got me to Leeds station in plenty of time. I’m fortunate - my nearest bus stop is a few minutes from my house. Live departure boards on the bus app gives me the confidence that a bus will arrive. Part of the reason for my mode shift was increasingly poor experience from taxi services. Apps make it easy to book and pay but when the taxi will arrive (search) has become too uncertain with at times it being necessary to book a taxi with more than one provider to increase the chances of a ride. Other benefits? Obviously cost, £2 vs. £10, but as well the experience is nearly always better. Exchanging morning greetings with driver, reading the provided paper, seeing / interacting with people starting their day (some who clearly see each other on bus regularly), knowing driver isn’t being distracted by his phone / taking calls / scanning for next job.. So top tips if you are in ‘taxi to train’ mindset and up for a change - know your bus options / timetable, keep tabs on live data, prepare to leave a few minutes earlier. The latter is a small inconvenience relative to the benefits - give it a go and please let me know how you go! Being a Founder, travelling has become my secondary task. And over-paying for travel is something that the baniya inside me never allows. Business conferences, events, meetings, exhibitions, seminars…the list is never-ending. In the early days of setting up my business, planning and booking tickets for my work trips was also on my task list.
