It’s amazing to see how the National Basketball Association (NBA) has been using the All-Star Weekend to boldly promote innovations within the league and basketball in general - this year’s edition will serve as another example of it.
▶️ This time, All-Star events taking place at Lucas Oil Stadium, including the Celebrity Game Slam Dunk Contest, a 3-point shootout contest between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu will be played at the interactive, state-of-the-art LED floor, which will certainly enhance the fan experience and once introduced to be used broader, can positively impact sponsorship revenues of the league and franchises. It’s worth mentioning that it will not be the first time this technology will be used, but certainly, it’s a debut on such a big stage
▶️ Last year, during the All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, an innovative, sustainable, 3D-printed, airless basketball created by Wilson was unveiled. Although being empty inside, the ball has the same weight and dimension as well as behaves and performs in a similar manner to the traditional equipment. Actually, we were able to see this basketball in action as Kenyon Martin Jr. used it during the Slam Dunk Contest.
▶️ Last, but not least (regardless of the final outcome) - sleeved jerseys. Shortly after being featured at all of Christmas Day matches, these uniforms graced the 2014 All-Star Game for, at least for now, a one-off appearance.
#NBA is approaching launching innovation in their unique, but courageous way - take it to the big stage, take advantage of the media attention, use the star power featuring the event - a talking point is being created.
