Important update in dementia care advancements! Anju Paudel, PhD, RN, at Pennsylvania State University has been awarded $250,000 by the Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Provider Roundtable to support groundbreaking research aimed at transforming care interactions between assisted living staff and residents living with dementia. This study will introduce and assess the QUALity of Interactions Inventory (QUALII), a novel tool designed to enhance and evaluate positive interactions, aiming to improve care quality, treatment responses, and resident satisfaction. In a field where understanding and connection are crucial, this initiative marks a significant step forward in optimizing care delivery and fostering joy within communities. At Franciscan Ministries, we're all about creating communities filled with connection and joy, and we're thrilled to support this push towards improving resident satisfaction. 🚀 🚀Last Friday, we announced a remarkably unique partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association. As I reflect on our joint release below and anticipate the giant year and responsibility ahead of us, I share a couple of thoughts. We are honored. Honored to be partnering with the gold standard of dementia care in the US. The Alzheimer's Association® has a storied legacy and was the OG in providing high quality, high integrity dementia support. I remember calling them when my own Grandmother struggled with dementia. They have helped millions in one of the toughest battles life can hand you. We can’t wait to join this movement and elevate specialty dementia care across the board. The fact we can do it with the support of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services NEW and innovative GUIDE model is like rocket fuel. We are humbled. As entrepreneurs, we’re humbled by the opportunity to partner with such a talented, driven and community-based group of non-profit innovators. They move fast, smart and decisively all with a deep focus on advancing our collective mission. To help a lot of folks who desperately need support, who are often undervalued and underserved, and especially those who struggle due to a lack of resources or because of where they choose to live. We are (incredibly) excited. And, have never been more optimistic about what’s possible. The time is NOW. There is no more urgent need in health care today. Every single one of us has a story about dementia. We are literally on the precipice of the largest group of Americans with dementia in our history. We’re not even remotely ready to provide the care these patients and families need and deserve. We understand deeply the huge responsibility we now have to help build this right and with great urgency. The gravity of that responsibility gets the whole team at Rippl pumped up, we are leaning in and look forward to bending this curve. Fast. Lastly, we are ready. Rippl is ready. Our entire team is ready to innovate and build a world-class dementia care network. We are a passionate, impatient, slightly irreverent, people-obsessed group of optimists & doers, intent on building a movement to bring this care to our rapidly aging population. We believe there is no more noble mission than caring for people at this critical stage of life, and we’re ready to take action. And, we are so proud to do this critical work in partnership with such a passionate group of innovators at the Alzheimer's Association. 2024 is going to be a very big year. Let's go! 🚀 If our team can help you deliver better dementia care for your family, patients or population, don’t hesitate to reach out. We ARE ready. #GUIDE #LIVINGwithdementia #aboutdamntime

Northampton “Dementia” Sprint - Turning Policy into Practise In 2023, the NHS Innovation and Life Sciences Commission supported by Curia launched their Dementia Commission report at Westminster Abbey. The report was featured on BBC News. The Commission’s Dementia programme focused on three key areas where action is required: 1. Future technologies for patients 2. Population Health and patient engagement 3. Patients, careers and clinicians Some of their key recommendations are Early diagnosis and prevention. New diagnosis target rate set at 90% for 2030, Tech-driven care solutions, Physical health checks tailored to spot people at risk of young onset dementia, Respite care programme, Dementia alliances in all ICS, System prep for DMTs. In July 2024 (last month) A sprint roundtable was facilitated aimed at a rapid shift in mindset, behaviours, and processes to transform public services and the care pathway, specifically addressing the recommendations of the Dementia Commission. The key principles of the 'Sprint' were Co-creation, Do-Learn-Do Mindset, Awareness and Knowledge Building. One of our local services managers and I represented Alzheimer's Society in Northampton and participated in the Sprint to shape conversations and make recommendations for solutions to some of the identified challenges and barriers to diagnosis and support. We expect that the commissioners will put together their report and potentially present it at the Northampton Northamptonshire ICB to drive this forward and create positive outcomes for people affected by dementia. Well done to all the commissioners and local stakeholders from West Northamptonshire Council, North Northamptonshire Council, Healthwatch North and West Northamptonshire, Dementia UK, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Northamptonshire, Northamptonshire Carers, University of Northampton, Age UK Northamptonshire.

📣 Did you know that September is World Alzheimer’s Month? 📣 Which means we have a global opportunity to raise dementia awareness and support people affected by this disease. As ‘Improving dementia diagnosis, care and awareness’ is one of the National Centre for Healthy Ageing (NCHA)'s four key themes, we are excited to celebrate and showcase the great work one of our lead NCHA dementia researcher, Associate Professor Michele Callisaya, and her team Catherine Devanny, Dr Den-Ching Angel Lee, Kym Torresi and Marianne Coleman have been doing to improve access to rehabilitation for people with dementia, and importantly to help remove the stigma surrounding it. We know from this year’s World Alzheimer’s Report that stigma is still a disappointingly frequent experience for people living with dementia, their care partners and supporters. The stigma not only comes from the public, who may have limited dementia awareness, but also from healthcare professionals too. This makes the work that Michele and her team have been doing even more important and relevant. To help educate and address this issue the project outputs include an information brochure about the role of allied health professionals in dementia rehabilitation, and structured training about dementia, stigma and rehabilitation – that’s been tested with over 500 allied health professionals! These educational resources cover: 🎯 Examples of how allied health professionals can provide dementia support 🎯 What questions to ask your GP 🎯 Ways to find dementia specialist Allied Health professionals Read more about this important project here: https://lnkd.in/dVwJ3VBd Access the brochure here: https://lnkd.in/ga75jZRD Watch a short video titled “How allied health professionals can help you after a dementia diagnosis” here: https://lnkd.in/ggGNzCqx Michele Callisaya Catherine Devanny Den-Ching Angel Lee Kym Torresi Marianne Coleman Velandai Srikanth Darshini Ayton Lily Chisholm Anna Mudigdo Monash University Monash Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Peninsula Health

Pioneer in dementia coaching and creator of the first business model of dementia care; I am a master dementia coach, a global Dementia Alchemist, author, keynote speaker.
Today, dementia care is structured around the institution/organization, not the resident/patient/client. As a result, care management has become unacceptable and very costly in several ways. The current system is actually unsustainable and unacceptable. The International Caregivers Association (ICA) is reshaping how dementia care is managed, delivered, and supported. To address these issues, I authored "Alzheimer and Dementia Coaching," a book that offered a comprehensive systems approach to dementia care, which was well-received by experts worldwide. Building upon this work and in consultation with leading dementia experts, I have developed the Transactional Dementia Intelligence (sm), a new caregiving systems model that sets the gold standard for dementia care. https://lnkd.in/eVk8xn6G

Associate Professor, Head ( Gerontology Programme) & Senior Fellow (Experiential Learning), Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS)
Thanks Emily Ong for sharing this communication toolkit developed by Alzheimer Society of Canada with support from The College of Family Physicians of Canada. This is a very good communication toolkit for healthcare providers. I can see the need for developing a similar toolkit for care partners and staff in elderly organizations as well. Imagine if we all knew how to communicate with people living with dementia, we could embrace our aging process with dignity and respect. Effective communication not only enhances the quality of care, but also fosters empathy and understanding. By equipping care partners and staff with the necessary tools and skills, we can create a more supportive environment for both the elderly and those who care for them. https://lnkd.in/gUetWFEn
We’re proud to introduce guidelines for communicating a dementia diagnosis. This user-tested resource is designed to support family physicians, nurse practitioners and specialists in improving what can be a challenging process. These guidelines strive to address the fact that both family physicians and people living with dementia report feeling a lack of support during the process of communicating a diagnosis. Family physicians say diagnosing dementia is one of their greatest challenges, while people living with dementia and caregivers say they aren’t receiving adequate information at the time of diagnosis. We hope these guidelines, and related toolkit, will help fill this critical gap. Thank you to our partners at the The College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Canadian Consensus Conference on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Dementia, who collaborated on the development of the guidelines, and to the Public Health Agency of Canada | Agence de la santé publique du Canada for providing vital financial support.
