Nature and Us Citizens’ Assembly was commissioned by Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales to support development of a vision for the future of the natural environment in 2050. Since 2021, they have been delivering the Nature and Us programme, which seeks to involve people across Wales about their views, concerns and hopes for the future. NatCen identified 6 themes that underpinned assembly member priorities for society and nature to thrive together.   ➡ People and Government share a commitment to protect the natural environment. ➡Clear government leadership helps the public to be more involved in decisions about nature. ➡Sharing knowledge helps people understand how nature impacts their lives. ➡Access to nature helps people live happy and healthy lives. ➡Greener transport and energy options enable people to make environmentally friendly choices. ➡Sustainable land management helps buy local food and feel connected. Today, on #WorldEnvironmentDay, we recognize the critical role of international development efforts in ensuring that we pass on to future generations a green, clean and livable planet. Cowater International is committed to advancing a more resilient and sustainable future for all through our work in sustainable forestry and agriculture, our efforts to promote clean and renewable energy, our commitment to prioritize the unique climate-induced vulnerabilities affecting women and vulnerable groups, and our focus on strengthening the institutions and policies needed to ensure a responsible use of natural resources. Nature-based carbon projects should target the same community benefits as #OECMs: 1. More international funding going to communities; 2. Increasing government accountability to their communities; 3. Improvements in local level governance and community based monitoring and evaluation. It is the responsibility of project development stakeholders in a #nature-based project to link the household level to global capital, accelerate community land and carbon right policies, and support local community institutional development.

Follow The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies' work in the EcoFuture-Prima project with a focus on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus of the Jordan Valley with partners from Jordan, Israel, Palestine, and Crete. 🏞 The Italian government is backing a project to double the size of the Peschiera–Le Capore aqueduct. Partially funded by EU money, the project raises environmental concerns as it risks breaching EU nature directives and threatens six Natura 2000 sites. 💧 The EUR 1.2 billion investment also risks over-exploiting local water resources and upsetting the ecological balance of nearby rivers. Non-governmental organisations and local groups have denounced the alarming lack of public participation and stakeholder engagement, with the concerns of local communities left unaddressed.  Unfortunately, the doubling of the aqueduct reflects a wider trend in Italy. In fact, Peschiera–Le Capore is one of several high-impact projects included in the recovery plan that have been fast-tracked under a new environmental impact assessment procedure adopted by the Italian government. ℹ Read more: https://lnkd.in/deJHDhf5 Walter Meloni
