One of the key things we can do to unlock potential in our city cores and neighborhoods as we begin to look at multiple modes of mobility.
Something to celebrate this Fourth! In at least 69 cities, Americans can now decide for themselves how much parking they do or don’t want to build on their own land.😊🇺🇸 Did we overlook your town? If so, let us know here: https://lnkd.in/gugxhUs6 The plucky volunteers at the Parking Reform Network spent countless hours reviewing and confirming the data underlying these maps, but America’s a big country.

Go go go go! Every elimination needs a transit and rezoning plan in tow. Getting people out of their cars is great, but there has to be a realistic alternative. This is the exact spot where we break the idea that new units of housing means more traffic, it does not have to be 1:1 when there is reliable transit options.

Business Development - SEH | Professional Engineer | Connector | Savage City Council | Volleyball Coach
September 1 … It’s crazy to think it has been 8 full months that I have been in a city council role already. One of the most interesting things I’ve noticed since being on Savage City Council is the response I get when it comes up that I’m on the city council. I’ve found I get one of two responses from people who don’t already know: (1) Oh you’re on city council? That’s cool - how did you decide to do that? *OR* (2) Why the heck would you ever choose to do that? The second response seems to come substantially more often than the first. 😂 I’ve found my response is generally the same - I ran for City Council because I feel like we need qualified people from our community to step up and fill those roles. People who aren’t in it for specific political reasons. People who care about our city and our community. People who are able to objectively help make tough decisions. Key word is ‘objectively’. There are definitely tough decisions. Decisions that need to be made after considering potential outcomes through different lenses. Decisions that some people inevitably disagree with. My phone started ringing a lot last summer with calls of encouragement to run for council because of who I am as a person and what I’ve demonstrated for our community in the past, and people had confidence in what I could bring. Essentially they are the true basis for why I am in office now - it takes others to put people in these positions. I have learned a lot during this first 8 months. I know I have a lot more to learn. I also know I am juggling a lot, and I’m doing it because making a positive difference is very important to me. We still have a lot of work to do. If it was easy, collectively we would already be in a much different place. It takes time and hard work. I am optimistic we can get there. I’m also grateful I get the opportunity to help us get there. I hope you all have a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend! As always, please reach out if you’d like to connect on anything.

Parking mandates have shaped the urban landscape for nearly a century. The move by cities around the country to scrap these mandates is an incredible step at remaking cities for people and not for cars, reducing congestion, increasing livability, and expanding opportunities for better housing and land use policies. Big thanks to the Parking Reform Network for keeping track of all this data and putting together a helpful visualization.

That’s all well and good and I agree something needs to be done with The Grand but there are fundamental issues that need fixing first. Scarborough has a massive pothole issue and the council seems to think that filling the holes with gravel will fix the problem. There’s a massive issue with drainage in Falsgrave park causing it to be either a bog or an ice rink. The council won’t grit it in the winter for fear of liability if someone has an accident, in the meantime, residents, especially the older generation fear taking a walk in the winter because they don’t want to fall. The A64 has had “talks” about it being a dual carriage way for years, when will this become a reality? There’s plots of land/warehouse at the back of Morrison’s that would be ideal for rock climbing/ice rink/trampoline centre to encourage residents and visitors all year round. What will be done about the fact there are Poundlands and charity shops but nowhere to encourage locals to shop local building a sustainable local economy? Surely these are issues that should be tackled before injecting millions of, presumably tax payers’ money into a project that will take years to come to fruition or is this a project for you purely to attract voters?
𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫. The choice is between the bold action we need, or more of the same. Others will stand by as our heritage disintegrates. I will rescue it. They’ll accept decline. I’ll reverse it. I have a grand plan for Scarborough. This isn’t a hotel renovation, it’s a revolution. And this isn’t just about one town. It’s an example of the level of my ambition for North Yorkshire. Eyesores transformed at long last. Civic pride restored. The high street brought back to life. 🗳️ Thursday’s vote will determine the future of Scarborough, and our whole county.
