The third edition of Barcelona Deep Tech Summit, the leading congress for advanced technology start-ups, is being held on 5, 6 and 7 November 2024 as part of the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) at Fira Barcelona's Gran Via exhibition centre. It's safe to say that November has been an exciting and busy month for #uktech. Here are a few of the headlines which I have been occupying myself with: 👉 I am currently looking forward to the UK's 2023 Global Investment Summit (GIS) on Monday, where 200 international CEOs will showcase the frontline of innovation in AI, Quantum, and Advanced Manufacturing, and demonstrate once more why the UK is a world-leading destination for tech investments. 👉 This month, the UK also hosted the AI Safety Summit at the historical Bletchley Park, marking the world's first global summit on AI. The resulting Bletchley Declaration, signed by the 28 countries represented at the summit, states their commitment to collectively ensure that AI is used in a human-centric, trustworthy, and responsible way. 👉 Finally, closer to home for those of us at the British Embassy The Hague, was the UK-NL Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in quantum science and technologies. The MoU sets the stage for joint breakthroughs in both academic and private sector research, and ensures close collaboration between two highly innovative countries in a field so critical to the future. If ever there was a month in recent memory that showcased the UK's leading role in the world of tech, as both an innovator and prime destination for growth, it has been November. Yesterday was an exciting day for the UK’s #tech and #innovation ecosystem as the UK rejoins #HorizonEurope - the world’s largest #research collaboration programme. The move will unlock €95.5bn in capital that UK scientists can now apply for grants until 2027. The move is welcomed by leaders in the UK’s science and technology sectors. Max Bautin, Managing Partner at IQ Capital says that it is “excellent for the UK’s deeptech community, much of which is sourced on research coming out of universities, and equally importantly talented researchers and founders” Stuart Grant, CEO of ARC | Advanced Research Clusters, said: “Greater access to funding will spur on vital innovation across the science and technology sector and boost collaboration among our European peers. Major breakthroughs aren’t made in siloes, but through working in collaboration with one another for the good of everyone”. There is something about the stubbornness of scientists that makes it impossible for them to accept that something can't be done. This is especially true in Armenia. This Crunchbase article highlights how, notwithstanding it history of struggles, Armenia's deep history of intellectual traditions have driven top-notch scientific research and technological achievements. We are especially proud and excited to see our partners at Biosim being highlighted as a shining light in developing the molecular simulation toolkit needed to accelerate drug discovery. Garegin and team's mission is hyper focused on making it possible to develop safe, effective drugs faster. What they have in the pipeline in physicochemical simulations and AI for interrogating biology at the atomic scale is exciting and crucial as we untangle the complexity of life.
