There’s a second debate scheduled for September 7. Leave it at that. I wouldn’t overplay my hand.

Why?

Since the debate, I’ve been pleased to see how many people are starting to engage with the *policy* discussions surrounding the presidential election. I’ve seen many friends and colleagues express shock at learning about Trump’s public promises to defund public education, to send troops to cities that elect Democrats, and to launch the military and national guard to eject Latinos from the country, and so on. Much of the attention has also centered on Project 2025, a policy paper produced by a coalition of prominent conservative organizations, which maps out a concrete plan for how to use a second Trump term to implement dozens of extremely far-right policies which most Americans disagree with, such as removing the 40-hour work week by repealing overtime pay, dismantling our efforts to stop climate change by closing NOAA, closing the Department of Education, cutting social security and Medicare, banning same-sex marriages, restricting access to contraceptives, undoing racial civil rights laws, and more. A big part of the plan will rely on the president assuming much, much more power than the Constitution allows, but relying on conservative control of the courts to allow this power-grab to happen. The Supreme Court’s recent decision on presidential immunity appears to have already started implementing Protect 2025, rather brazenly. The plan also seeks to reform the executive branch by undoing (or ignoring) anti-corruption laws in order to remove nonpartisan career professionals from federal agencies and to replace them with partisan appointees who are more loyal to politicians than to the law. At the core of this plan is the problem: how can Republicans remain in power in a democracy where the majority of people do not agree with its policies? The answer: obtain and hold onto power using undemocratic methods, corruption, and unlawful actions. The party continues to rely on intense partisanism to keep its political base distracted, uninformed, and controlled during this power grab. Trump has responded to the public backlash over Project 2025 by distancing himself from it, even though his name is cited in the document hundreds of times, and even though there is a great overlap between Trump’s policy positions and the project’s policy positions. Please take the time to learn more about the details behind Project 2025. Many useful resources have been shared already. I thought this John Oliver episode was especially accessible while still being precise.

The future of our planet and world peace is at stake. Our biggest threat is clear - one man who has proven time and again that he is not fit for the job. It's time for the US to do the right thing and make their voices heard. Let's hope that come election day, we choose a leader who will prioritize the health and safety of our planet and all its inhabitants. #Election2020 #ClimateAction https://lnkd.in/eD3gTJDv

I help executive teams in high growth companies ($5-150M) fix stubborn growth problems & speed up great results.
Things I Said THIS WEEK: I always think it’s so interesting that we celebrate on July 4th. We don’t celebrate the ratification of the Constitution. We don’t celebrate the day the first shots were fired, the day the Cornwall surrendered, or the day the treaty was signed. We celebrate the day we DECLARED our freedom. Declarations matter. Me: I’m actually very pragmatic. Friend: That’s what all bloodthirsty people say. It makes a difference when you say yes. Everything isn’t done but you’re IN. And things start to move in you and around you. Commit. Beginning has more power than you know. I hate newsletters. Teams matter because on a good team someone else sees what you cannot, does what you cannot, IS what you cannot be. Too many of us are trying to be all of it. Failing because we can’t see it. And missing the chance to build something great. When I met you, you were working 12-18 hour days regularly and most weekends. And it was never enough. Now you have a life. A stable, healthy business. You got a dog for Pete’s sake! Sometimes we don’t see how far we’ve come unless there is someone around who has seen it first-hand. There are different kinds of freedom. Being free of the ugly, harsh, unreasonable, unfair, and mostly not-useful voice in your head is a way bigger deal than most people realize. “You have been a pivotal. One of the three or four most important people in my life.” — Client #leadership #professionaldevelopment

This is a spot on policy analysis of what happened in Oregon and what we may be able to avoid in Washington and the United States. IF, if we actually provide implementation support and evaluation. Otherwise there will be no information to drive policy making. https://lnkd.in/eDTCKf-r

The Green Party of the United States REFUSING to alter an “uncompromising commitment to #People, #Planet, and #Peace” is EXACTLY how the #AmericaElectionProcess should operate, 👏👏🏾👏🏻 and I commend the party for exercising a #MoralCommitment to values that America needs right now. #JoeBiden on #ReclaimingAmerica’sValues: “Reclaiming our values starts with standing up for them at home — #Inclusivity, #Tolerance, #Diversity, #Respect for the #RuleOfLaw, #FreedomOfSpeech, #FreedomOfThePress. If these are the #DemocraticPrinciples we wish to see around the world, America must be the first to model them.” 🌎 I truly believes that everything #Green should rally behind Biden for President. Green Party of Texas Go Green Texas EV Greener Earth Solutions United Green Green Farm Forum Greenpeace This Republican National Committee vs Democratic National Committee #Bipartisan stuff has turned into a 🟥 vs 🟦 #Gang #RealityShow.

😲 Just listened to this short interview of Paul Dans from the Heritage Foundation with Steve Bannon, explaining their "Project 2025" transition plan, preparing for a "conservative" (read: far-right) victory in the US elections in November 2024, so in a bit more than a year. 💥 It's a chilling account of how to achieve authoritarian state capture. It reminds me of Orbán's methods in Hungary: Changing the Constitution, dismantling the judiciary, restricting media freedom, destroying independent government bodies, and most importantly, replacing all civil servants with your "own". They are very much preparing for a brutal "takeover". And we cannot say that we didn't know: It's out there, for all of us to read: https://lnkd.in/ecWqbnFh Two more things that strike me: ✊ The American far-right is organised and united. Over 80 conservative groups joined this "Project 2025", setting aside their differences. Progressives should learn from that: You will never win an election if you keep bickering among yourselves. ✏ They have understood the value of staff and training. They offer courses, capacity-building and focus on recruitment over a year before the election. Investing in the people is smart - progressives should learn from that. 📝 Here is their policy programme in full length for those who want to see what to expect should Trump or any other far-right candidate win (which, unfortunately, is a rather likely scenario): https://lnkd.in/ePT2V4D9) 📺 And the interview: https://lnkd.in/etJpFUGD
