💼 All learning disabled adults should be able to live their best life possible. Our manifesto for this #GeneralElection2024 is based on four standpoints – getting the right support, accessible and affordable housing, the world of work and being respected by others. 📢 We’re calling for those who make decisions in Whitehall and Westminster to listen to the voices of learning disabled adults and to be part of the change we must see. 📜 For our manifesto, learning disabled adults told us they want a world where everyone receives enough support to stay healthy and do what they want to do. What’ve you done to be a #LearningDisabilityAlly? #GeneralElection2024 📖 Find out more here: https://loom.ly/IoPvTLw

Come on Joey. How dumb do you think we are? This 2001 study is sometimes used to support the Lindamood system for students with reading disabilities as well as direct instruction of reading sub-skills. But does the data support that conclusion? https://lnkd.in/gvf7pNDd

When people’s access needs are met and when they get the tools they need to participate in their own lives, they’ll likely thrive. It’s that simple. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and this year’s theme is Advancing Access and Equity. And that theme resonates with the work we do every day to advance technology that makes the world — and the workplace! — more accessible. With more accessibility, inclusion increases, leading to more gainful employment for disabled people. When companies ignore accessibility and inclusion, they miss out on valuable perspectives, skills, and talent. That’s why it’s in the best interest of their bottom lines to prioritize these practices and values. Check out this clip from a prior Disability Tech Talk with Molly Levitt, the Director of Remarkable Tech US, where she talks about her own early grasp of assistive technology’s importance in all aspects of life and how that’s shaped her own career path and understanding of the human experience. "...parents used metaphors with negative connotations regarding uncertainty, conflict harm..." I find this article by the CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability Research team veeerrrrry interesting. It is about metaphors used by families with disabled kids to describe health care. Walls, puzzles, slamming doors, games...all common words to describe experiences. Now my question is: Who is going to help families tear down these walls? https://lnkd.in/gRTfBFpC
Illuminating their reality: the use of metaphor by parents of children with disabilities to express their experiences of health care
