These individuals represent the pinnacle of excellence, embodying the values of experience, education, and fitness that are the hallmark of our Armed Forces. In fact, Sergeants Major comprise less than 1% of the Army, a testament to their elite status as the most seasoned and proficient leaders within the military. Translating their expertise to the private sector, a Sergeant Major's role is akin to that of a CEO, COO, or senior executive in a corporate setting. With their extensive background and specialized knowledge, they naturally gravitate towards high-level positions, where they offer invaluable guidance and leadership to their teams. I count myself fortunate to have reached this prestigious level during my 22 years of dedicated service. Beyond my military career, I've ventured into various domains, from serving as President and Vice President of the Sergeants Major Association and teaching at the Army Sustainment University to operating multiple successful businesses, including beauty salons, barber shops, and nail salons. Currently, as the owner and CEO of The Real Estate Guy LLC, I've proudly served our Warriors and Families of Central Virginia for over 14 years. My transition from the military to the private sector has been driven by a passion for excellence and a relentless pursuit of success. Quite an interesting read! Very good lesson in the maxim "Culture eats strategy for breakfast". Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas in an a very ill advised merger. Interesting though, the tougher, leaner managers of the weaker company, McDonnell Douglas, elbowed out the more gentlemanly leaders of the bigger company. And brought thier culture aboard. The result was that Boeing’s idealistic engineers ended up being run by McDonnell Douglas hard-bitten veterans. These were accountants, financial controllers and other managers obsessed with cost savings and used to running things on a shoestring budget. As they say, the rest is history! What is your organizational culture? And what is the organizational culture of your partners or would be partners? It matters to know.

Existential issues arise from smaller, perhaps less complicated, but very important problems that are either insufficiently addressed or not addressed at all. Whether it's hubris, corporate culture, fear of accountability, doesn't matter. There are issues at Boeing down to its core, that need to be addressed comprehensively, which will take time, as noted by the Emirates Airlines CEO recently. Joe is relatively new at PI and responsible for our aerospace businesses that encompass over 100 employees in both our #AerospaceManufacturing plants (PI) in #Seattle, and the Pioneer Distribution Center in #Fife, WA. The GM role requires a #BusinessLeader that focuses on safety, quality, delivery, hands-on management and accountability of the profit and loss (P&L) for the business. Joe shared, "My role also focuses on the overall health and wellbeing of our employees and culture.
