Understanding opportunity awareness in the world of work 💡 New career education infographics are now live! In term 2, we focus on expanding students’ awareness of the world of work by exploring what is possible. These resources for primary and secondary educators have been developed in line with the DOTS Model of Career Development (Law & Watts, 1977) to support career conversations in the classroom. Earnest individual with experience in the human services field providing support and guidance to individuals in need. Strong understanding of effectively helping others become employable.
I know some staff members are having some trouble with respecting students on center at Clearfield Job Corps so I wrote a topic and hopefully you can learn the skill I'm reaching out to shed light on a crucial aspect of professional conduct within educational institutions, specifically focusing on the importance of staff respecting students at Clearfield Job Corps Center. At Clearfield Job Corps Center, we recognize that every student is unique, with individual strengths, challenges, and aspirations. As educators and mentors, it's imperative that we cultivate an environment of mutual respect and support, where students feel valued, heard, and empowered to achieve their goals. Respecting students involves more than just following policies and procedures; it's about fostering meaningful connections, actively listening to their perspectives, and treating each student with dignity and empathy. Whether it's providing academic guidance, offering career advice, or simply lending a compassionate ear, or even being able to speak nicely and not be disrespectful or spread rumors about students to other students, it’s unprofessional and the interactions as a staff member with students should always be characterized by respect and professionalism. Furthermore, respecting students means advocating for their rights, ensuring equitable access to opportunities, and addressing any concerns or grievances with sensitivity and fairness. By upholding these principles, you are not only enhancing the student experience but also contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment for all. As members of the Clearfield Job Corps community, let's reaffirm our commitment to respecting students and supporting them on their journey to success. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of the students and empower them to thrive in both their academic and professional pursuits. Thank you for your dedication to student success and for joining in fostering a culture of respect and professionalism at Clearfield Job Corps Center. #clearfieldjobcorpscenter #jobcorps #professionalism #respect #LeadByExample

I love this TEDTalk from Amazing If - I agree that the ladder needs to go. However, having worked in education for 10 years which has it's "the only way is up" structure we need to ensure we're preparing students/learners to get off the ladder when they step into work. There is already some great work happening in HE on developing transferable skills and/or getting students to recognise their skills as transferable. And opportunities to find out about other career paths as well as loads of extra-curricular activities and placements. But when the Government is prioritising funding for courses which have more financially successful outcomes for students careers it directs focus away from industries which do not have as high earning potential. For most of the students I've supported throughout the years their degree is the stepping stone into a career with a good salary (eventually, after some promotions). So alongside a cultural shift in organisations we need a cultural shift in education. https://lnkd.in/ezJVnhnE
