Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, is a federal holiday that commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865. Although the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, it took more than two years for the news to reach Texas, which was still under Confederate control during the Civil War! Two questions for #parents: ⁉What is one aspect of Donald Trump's #values, #ethics and #morals you would like to see in your #children⁉ ⁉If you vote for Donald Trump as President, how do explain that to your child⁉ Why am I asking these questions? As a #parent of four children, I see how 'children breathe in their parents’ attitudes in the same way they breathe in microbes. As the children grow up, the vast majority will perpetuate these attitudes with the next generation, helpless to change what are often long-established familial patterns'.[1] I believe the same in terms of breathing in the attitudes of #leaders. This is why I am concerned. I have asked the first question many times in posts on LinkedIn and have received no answers, other than seeing it as a partisan question. On #partisanship, I am an Australian who has lived many years in the US, with one of our four children being born there (therefore is a US citizen; I am not, so cannot vote). Thank you. We have the most lethal fighting force in the world: an American public armed with assault weapons aimed at each other. We've been armed by corporations that have saturated the military market and now sell to civilians. They drive a culture that, instead of opposing instinctual responses to threat, harnesses fear for profit. Starting with children's cartoons, then with blockbuster movies, and finally with the news, the media, controlled by the same people, teaches that the world is a dangerous place and that bombs and assault weapons are our salvation. They do this because it's easiest and most profitable to lead us in the direction that our strongest, most primitive emotions point us. Since President Eisenhower's warned us of the military-industrial complex, every administration has invested a large percentage of GDP in murder and mayhem. Disposable products for the destruction of resources. A respectable military might need to be trained to kill, but it should be trained to do so only as a last resort. Service members should be trained to serve humanity. They must be trained to follow orders in emergencies, but also to prevent emergencies: They must be educated to understand the languages cultures and needs of the parties involved. They must be encouraged to dissent when it is safe to do so. Our own security depends on the security of all. If our military were employed only to safeguard democracy and sovereignty of other nations, we would not be destroying cities and wild places. We would not be facing off with Russians or Chinese on random battlegrounds. We would not be invaded by refugees from violence perpetrated by puppet governments of abandoned colonies. We would not be burning massive quantities of fuel, stockpiling nuclear weaponry. We would not be turning Americans into hired killers, sabateurs, amputees and cancer victims. We would not be agents in the spread of famine and disease and toxic chemicals, all of which will reach us sooner or later. We will need armies of well-trained youth: We’ll need them to rescue us all from floods and fires, from landslides and from lands torn by war. We need to put Harris in charge. Then we need to convince her to turn the page, to abandon Biden’s sugar-coating of toxic capitalism and Trump’s glorification of kleptocracy. If Kamala loses, we’re doomed. If she wins, she’ll need to play by new rules, rules written by women and minorities. Rules written by thoughtful, practical, cooperative people. We’ll have to teach her how to lead the public to victory against climate change. We can’t afford to imagine that salvation will come from restoration of monarchy, or by accelerating new technology. We need to embrace the power of faith taught 2000 years ago. Not faith that investing power in one egotist will put things right, but the faith that everyone working together can perform miracles, that security and happiness comes from caring for others.

Lifting up my relative General John Fulton Reynolds on this Memorial Day (along with the connection between the Civil War and civil rights). A respected senior commander in the Union Army, Reynolds was key in committing the Army to the Battle of Gettysburg (where he unfortunately died). Resistant to the politics of Washington, D.C., Reynolds previously declined President Abraham Lincoln’s request that he command the Army of the Potomac (the penchant to buck bureaucracy remains strong in his family). Today, you can see him standing resolutely in places throughout Pennsylvania (including in front of Philadelphia’s City Hall). Many think that the Civil War was a long ago moment in time - separate and apart from who we are today. Columbia University Professor Barbara Fields corrects this misguided notion: “I think what we need to remember, most of all, is that the Civil War is not over until we, today, have done our part in fighting it, as well as understanding what happened when the Civil War generation fought it. William Faulkner said once that history is not “was,” it’s “is,” and what we need to remember about the Civil War is that the Civil War “is,” in the present, as well as the past. The generation that fought the war, the generation that argued over the definition of the war, the generation that had to pay the price in blood, that had to pay the price in blasted hopes and a lost future also established a standard that will not mean anything until we finish the work. You can say there’s no such thing as slavery anymore, we’re all citizens. But if we’re all citizens, then we have a task to do to make sure that that, too, is not a joke. If some citizens live in houses and others live on the street, the Civil War is still going on. The establishment protects the establishment. Once you understand that, it all makes sense. Just like "Republicans for Biden" last time around. Let Cackling Kamala have all these phony RINO's as they are weak minded, have no core, and don't deserve our consideration. For such compromised people, party and ideology are irrelevant. Intentions of the Founding Fathers are irrelevant. Consequences are irrelevant. Limited government is irrelevant. Responsible spending is irrelevant. Traditional values are irrelevant. What's good for America is irrelevant. That's how these RINO's can align with an obviously Leftist, anti-American agenda, continuing the legacy of Obama, Biden, and the Deep State. They hate Trump more than they love America. As soon as Trump, the outsider, took on the swamp, challenged establishment folly, and embarrassed Jeb Bush in the primaries, the Bush-Cheney-McCain-McConnell machine aligned with the socialists. BLM marching Mitt Romney quickly joined in, ignoring his American and Mormon (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) values.
