While #cultivatedmeat is often seen as a substitute for traditional #meat - sometimes even aiming to replace it - Dutch company Meatable doesn't see it this way. In fact, said the company's new CEO Jeff Tripician, it can be used instead as a 'raw material' for cattle farmers, who are forecast to face a rise in demand of 70% by 2050. Cultivated meat, he told us, can help them cope with this rise in demand. https://lnkd.in/e8UTU-4d

Cultured meat, clean meat, lab-grown meat, cultivated meat - whatever you want to call it, it's real meat. And it's a game-changer for the food industry. Rather than relying on traditional animal agriculture, cultivated meat is grown in a sterile lab from just a few cells. This means that billions of animals could be spared from slaughter every year. Our friends at Believer Meats have compiled a fascinating history of the emerging cultured meat industry. Check it out to learn more about this innovative technology and the potential it holds for a more sustainable future at https://lnkd.in/gA56asNk

'Forks over Knives', 'Seaspiracy', 'Cowspiracy', and Netflix's latest documentary 'You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment' collectively shed light on the often overlooked, darker aspects of the food industry and agriculture sector. After watching these eye-opening documentaries, it's challenging not to feel compelled to make positive changes. Amidst reports of industry improvements, like a 66% increase in beef production per animal or a 76% reduction in land use for pig farming, one can't help but question if we're merely trading one issue for another. Moreover, with the continuous growth of the sector and the projected increase in the global population, addressing the unsustainable levels of meat, fish, poultry, and dairy consumption remains a real concern. #sustainablefarming #ClimateAction https://lnkd.in/dwwKHDyN

Aleph Farms’ commitment to producing cultivated beef steaks is driven by clear strategic intent. Cultivated cattle products are best positioned to fulfill the positive impact potential of cultivated meat, and are therefore an ideal first application of our cell cultivation platform. Cultivated beef has the power to optimize our food systems by complementing conventional cattle farming’s transition towards sustainable and regenerative practices. It can enhance resilience by diversifying our animal protein and fat supply, decentralizing production, and adapting to the challenges posed by climate change and extreme climate events. Supporting regenerative beef production is key, but it requires much more land per animal and can’t feed the world alone. Complementary animal production systems are necessary to bring our food systems back to within planetary boundaries and enable food security for future generations. Furthermore, beef holds a significant position in global markets, commanding the highest value among common animal proteins. This inherent value accelerates the timeline for cultivated beef to achieve price parity with conventional options, a key to cultivated meat’s wider market adoption. As such, beef remains a strategic focus for Aleph Farms as we strive to drive a large-scale positive impact on the sustainability and security of our global food systems over the long term. Some believe Florida's ban on cultivated meat isn't just about protecting cattle ranches, but a signal of distrust towards new technology and a possible conspiracy theory. Proponents of cultivated meat argue it could be more sustainable and reduce reliance on traditional agriculture. Governor DeSantis, however, has framed it as an "elite" agenda against traditional farming. This view suggests the ban prioritizes special interests over innovation and consumer choice. read all about it in the link below. 🌱💡 As the Global Agrifood Tech Alliance, we fully support the discussion around cultivated meat and its potential role in reshaping our food systems. The complexity of our current food systems demands a multifaceted approach, recognizing that there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Our priority should unequivocally be to steer our food systems back within planetary boundaries while ensuring food security for future generations. 🌍🌾 It's essential to acknowledge that the world's appetite for meat isn't likely to diminish overnight. Thus, it's imperative that we explore innovative avenues to complement existing animal production systems. Cultivated meat presents a promising option in this regard, offering a sustainable alternative that could significantly alleviate the environmental burden associated with traditional livestock farming. 🔬💡 While the concept of cultivated meat may be relatively new, dismissing it without thorough consideration would be shortsighted. Embracing innovation and leveraging technology to create more sustainable food sources is paramount in our journey towards a more resilient and equitable food future. 🚀🌱 Let's continue to engage in constructive dialogue and explore diverse solutions that can collectively move us towards a more sustainable and inclusive food system. Cultivated meat represents just one piece of the puzzle, but it's a piece worth exploring and integrating into our broader efforts towards a more sustainable future. #SustainableFood #CultivatedMeat #FoodSystems #Innovation #GATAlliance Didier Toubia Aleph Farms Mosa Meat Robert E. (USA/CHILE 17.01.24) #grapes Chilean Systems Approach Pilot in Mexico Could Serve as a Litmus Test for the US Market. Chile is anticipating approval for a Systems Approach by the US, allowing table grapes from Atacama, Coquimbo, and Valparaiso to be sent without methyl bromide fumigation. ----- [AG: Agronometrics AUSTRALIA? In Australia, a notable deficiency exists in comprehensive communication and information channels for our national fresh produce industry. Currently, there is no unified national platform effectively addressing the discussions and concerns within our fresh produce industry. The imperative for real-time market performance analysis, supported by robust data and information, cannot be overstated. Such resources are crucial for empowering Australian growers, bolstering their sustainability, and optimizing profitability to secure the ongoing production of the food that ultimately reaches consumers' plates. Regrettably, there has been a lack of initiative in Australia to courageously and determinedly unite our national fresh produce industry and rectify the transparency issues within our intricate supply chain. Post-farm-gate operators, rather than adding meaningful value, tend to prioritize their own profits, taking advantage of the non-transparent and ambiguous nature of our fresh produce supply chain. This predicament leaves our growers disheartened and unable to fully reap the rewards of their hard work. It is imperative that our Australian fresh produce industry establishes a national platform that consolidates growers, addresses issues within the supply chain, and actively works towards solutions. Transparency is fundamental for fostering trust and ensuring a fair and equitable fresh produce industry in Australia. We require a representative for our fresh produce industry that challenges the existing norms, exposes inefficiencies, promotes accountability among supply chain stakeholders, and takes concrete actions to rectify these issues. Only by confronting these challenges head-on, we can establish a system that genuinely supports Australian growers and safeguards their interests. The time has come for a paradigm shift in the fresh produce industry, one that centres on Australian growers and eliminates unnecessary post-farm gate intermediaries who exploit the system for personal gain. With the right platform and a commitment to transparency, we can empower our Australian growers with the information needed to make informed decisions, ultimately working towards a fresh produce supply chain in Australia that benefits both growers and consumers alike. It is time to take action and ensure that Australian growers receive the recognition, support, and fair compensation they rightly deserve.] ----- https://lnkd.in/g5jta7w8
