Everyone deserves dignified access to nutritious food. Unfortunately, neighbors facing hunger shared their lived experiences with Feeding America and determined that is not always the case when trying to get help from federal food assistance programs. They miss out on critical support and are stripped of their fundamental humanity and dignity because of several roadblocks that stand in the way—technological gaps, disproportionate benefit levels and fear of asking for help due to the stigma that surrounds food insecurity. There needs to be a shift in both policy and culture to make sure ordinary people like Keisha receive the support they need in a kind, respectful manner. We’re going big to make hunger history. We’re working on a big, bold moonshot goal to cut hunger in half for all Minnesotans by 2030. New knowledge and partnerships have led us to a defining moment in the fight against hunger. We need bold new solutions, stronger connections, and a way to clearly measure our progress so we can understand what’s working. It’s time to get to work. With the help of the whole community including our corporate partners Cargill and Target, we’ll reduce hunger today by increasing access to emergency food, prevent hunger tomorrow with policy, partnerships and one-on-one services, and track progress to ensure we’re effective and accountable.

Today is Drought and Desertification Day, a day to recognise the challenges posed by land degradation and drought on vulnerable people and communities around the world. Previously considered a local issue, land degradation is now a recognised global crisis, leading to food and water insecurity, ecosystem collapse, displacement of people and conflict. Responsible governance of land is critical for us to build resilience against the impacts of climate change, including drought. Restoring degraded land and ecosystems is restoring nature and our resilience, secures our food and water, ensures a sustainable future for the younger generations and those not yet born.
Every second an equivalent of 4 football fields of healthy land becomes degraded. We all depend on land for our food and this rapid degradation poses a major threat to our food security. This #DesertificationAndDroughtDay, let's commit to restoring our land for a better tomorrow. #UNited4Land
