Crafting conversations and community for Certified Angus Beef | Agriculture Advocate | Trail & Ultrarunner
Many people fear the reactions of others if they come out as LGBTQ or reveal more of who they are. This fear of rejection or isolation is real in conservative, Christian-dominated communities we often find in agriculture. For #PrideInAg, Tanner Keeton shares his story of how he challenged his assumptions and stereotypes about acceptance to find a community that would champion inclusivity in agriculture for LGBTQ people. What can people in the agriculture community do to be allies of LGBTQ people? Ask for grace. You don’t have to know all the answers, and it’s okay to ask questions when you are unsure what to do or say. Let yourself be known as a safe space and ensure that we are afforded the same work environments as you. Be careful what you assume. Embrace others with kindness and compassion. Approach each conversation with the goal of challenging perspectives and changing the way people think about agriculture.

Even animals understand injustice. Why don't we? Animals are often seen as less intelligent than humans, but there is growing evidence that they are capable of understanding complex concepts such as fairness and injustice. For example, studies have shown that chimpanzees will refuse to cooperate with humans who have treated them unfairly, and that dogs will show signs of distress when they see other dogs being treated cruelly. The big question here is that, if animals can understand injustice, why do we humans sometimes struggle to do the same? One possible explanation is that we are often blinded by our own biases and prejudices. When we see someone being treated unfairly, we may be more likely to justify the treatment if it is being done to someone who is different from us. As humans, we have a responsibility to stand up against injustice whenever we see it. We can do this by speaking out against discrimination, and by working to create a more just and equitable society. #injustice #fairness #equality #inclusion #socialjustice #compassion

🌿✨ Towards Multispecies Inclusivity and Justice – Embracing Indigenous Wisdom for Peaceful Coexistence Across Species ✨🌿 Thank you to all the presenters and participants for your insightful contributions at the #Gender, #Work, and #Organization 2024 conference stream "Towards Multispecies Inclusivity and Justice – Embracing Indigenous Wisdom for Peaceful Coexistence Across Species." Though relatively small in size, the stream was thriving with thought-provoking presentations and vibrant discussions. Together, we explored diverse topics such as organizing at an #animal sanctuary, the sticky relations of #care, speculative fabulation, violence towards animals in professional kitchens, animals in agriculture, and sonar-o-graphy as a method. These critical discussions have left me feeling inspired and energized. Animal Organization Studies will grow as a field, and it is truly heartening to witness the emergence of such important dialogues in Organization Studies. The future is bright with these critical perspectives, and I am happy to be a part of this transformative movement. Together, we are paving the way for a more inclusive and just world for all species. 🌍 #MultispeciesInclusivity #IndigenousWisdom #AnimalRights #AnimalWork #CareWork #SpeculativeFabulation #Agriculture #AnimalSanctuary #CriticalDiscussions #PeacefulCoexistence

Gender dynamics can be critical to the success or failure of #forest landscape restoration (FLR) efforts. Roles and relations dictated by #gender often shape the way people interact with their natural surroundings, as well as how resources are managed, decisions are made, and responsibilities and benefits are distributed within households and communities. To achieve equitable and sustainable FLR outcomes and ensure that all genders have equal opportunities and influence over the future of their landscapes, it’s essential to recognize and address these dynamics. 🔗: https://bit.ly/3tbm1DN #ForestDay #TreesPeoplePlanet

Social Entrepreneur | Founder & CEO Commonlands | Revolutionizing Credit Delivery, Restoring Trust & Empowering Billions Worldwide with Decentralized Technology
The best way to reduce hunger worldwide is to give people secure land rights. Farmers want to reap the benefits of their labor but insecure land ownership discourages them from investing in their land. Secure land rights will give them the incentive to invest in their land and improve its productivity. By giving people security over their land, we will increase food production and improve food security for households and communities. This is why Commonlands provides a community-verified land documentation system to foster secure land tenure. What other ways do you think we can reduce hunger? Sexual harassment and gender based violence are the unfortunate reality in many places where sustainability investments are made and programs are implemented. Companies don’t have in place the mechanisms to detect issues and then address them when they occur. Most sustainability programs do not include a #genderlens in program design and implementation, and as a result #genderbiased programs persist - this includes much of the well intentioned work in coffee and cocoa sustainability. Women's rights are human rights and its time we work harder to secure safety for women, especially in places where investments are specifically meant to be doing good. #genderbasedviolence #genderequity #womensrights #humanrights #agriculture #cocoa #coffee Equal Origins (The Partnership for Gender Equity) https://lnkd.in/eGrK8AUK
