Today is World Oceans Day! 🌊 In honour of World Oceans Day, we’re celebrating our commitment to doing our part for ocean sustainability, by empowering our colleagues to contribute to a healthier planet. 🌍 We are committed to fostering a responsible and ethical supply chain, and our recent fish sustainability workshop was a testament to this mission. Hosted by our dedicated sustainability team and food category experts, this event was an enlightening dive into sustainable sourcing practices. 🐟💚 On the day, we were thrilled to have insightful presentations from the Marine Conservation Society and our trusted supplier, Direct Seafoods, providing valuable insights into best practices and supply chain integrity. Outside of the office, members of our team recently rolled their sleeves up for a beach clean with MCS, demonstrating our commitment to understanding and addressing environmental responsibilities beyond our day-to-day operations, whilst contributing to vital research efforts. 🌊 Read our blog post to discover how we're leading the way in sustainable procurement and learn more about the initiatives we're passionate about: https://lnkd.in/eyfB-yHe #WorldOceanDay #Sustainability #ResponsibleSourcing #FoodProcurement #SustainableSeafood #Sustainableprocurement

Sustainability at it’s finest episode 34 of 100 Alaskan pollock fishery 🇺🇸 👏👏 ❤️ Wild Alaska Pollock is the largest, certified sustainable fishery in the world, accounting for 43% (by weight) of all seafood caught in the U.S. NOAA endorses Wild Alaska Pollock as a smart seafood choice because it's sustainably managed, responsibly harvested, and not subject to overfishing. Alaska’s cold, nutrient-rich waters support some of the largest and most successful commercial fisheries on the planet. The pollock fishery is one of them. It’s the second largest fishery in the world, worth an estimated $1.9 billion, and it provides nearly 30,000 jobs across the United States. Alaskan pollock is the main ingredient in some of our most popular foods—like fish sticks, imitation crab, and even the iconic Filet-O-Fish. It’s also the biggest fishery in the United States by volume, and recognized worldwide as being well managed and sustainable. For more than 20 years, NOAA Fisheries has been successfully managing the pollock fishery with a holistic ecosystem-based management model. Through innovation and sound science, government and industry continue to work together to improve this fishery, including efforts to reduce bycatch. American Seafoods Company is one of the leading companies within this amazing industry. It was founded by Kjell Inge Røkke in Seattle in 1988, following the passage of the American Fisheries Act in 1998. American Seafoods and seven other companies form the Pollock Conservation Cooperative. American Seafoods Company received 16.572% of Directed Pollock Fishery. The Ocean Integrity Group would most definitely give this fishery two thumbs up 👍 👍 and wish all involved endless success with this amazing fishery. Food security is a national security issue and supporting sustainable fishing is a must. Best Regards American Seafoods keep up the great work 👏👏👏 https://lnkd.in/gKZDAcc2

This week marks the beginning of Sustainable Seafood September, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)’s month-long campaign which encourages people to buy more sustainable seafood. Everyone at Young’s shares a passion for inspiring consumers to make seafood a more regular part of their diet. We’re also dedicated to doing this in a responsible, sustainable manner that protects our industry and the environment. At Young’s we have a set of principles which are all about caring for our people, planet and partners. We call these ‘Fish for Life’ and it means… 🐟Making fish for all – so everyone can enjoy their two portions a week 🐟Having a sense of community – treating all of our workers fairly 🐟Sourcing seafood responsibly – to protect our planet 🐟Looking after the environment – reducing our environmental impact wherever we can 🐟Being honest about what we do and why – making lasting relationships with our customers and partners Learn more about Fish for Life here: https://lnkd.in/eg3ZudBc #FishforLife #Sustainability #SustainableSeafood #CSR

Today's CoCreation session on 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 confirmed the complexity of the issue. A successful urban food system can only be directed through the 𝐜𝐨-𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬. Knowledge, effective space utilization, promoting circularity, fostering solid conditions, and transparency throughout a food chain are the important forces for overcoming the challenges. The numerous ideas and discussions we have exchanged provide an excellent starting point for implementing changes. Systems Innovation , Si Food Hub , #UrbanAgriculture
