For this project, our customer, Manor Marine, were contracted to build two pontoons replacing existing pontoons in the River Tamar that were over sixty years old. Pontoons require linkages that allow connections to be maintained as they rise and fall with tidal changes and these linkages, or guide arms, require bearings. The customer required the bearings to operate in a silty inshore environment under wet and dry conditions and need to offer a long service life. The bearings were supplied in our Tufcot® T200MP material, with material manufactured and the parts finish machined on-site at Tufcot. This material offers low friction, low wear and a long life in marine environments. In addition, the material has high resistance to the embedding of silt particles typically found in shallow marine environments, ensuring sustained performance where other materials might succumb to rapid wear and deterioration. Where are we in the shipping cycle?🚢 Today we want to start something new in our posts. We'd like to start a discussion and want to hear what you see in that crystal ball. Shipping currently experiences another “newbuilding boom”. In the first half of this year alone 64 new container ships have been ordered worldwide with a total capacity of 543.500 teu. The number of shipyards worldwide has increased by 17.7% in only 2 years! Prices for new ships are higher than ever before and still, the orderbooks of shipyards are full and new inquiries flow into the yards. Even though Chinese and Korean shipyards are the main beneficiaries, yards like our partners of #WesternMarineShipyard, Chattogram (https://www.wms.com.bd) get more and more inquiries as well. What do you think, how will this develop? Will it decrease again when the Red Sea Crisis is over or the Houthi war slows down? What about the influence of the grey fleets on the tanker market? Could this even become a longer problem for the industry due to a bottleneck effect and not enough capacity? #Maritime #Spareparts #EastWind #EastWindGmbH
