Grateful for this excellent book recommendation from JoAnne (Jo) Bass! We couldn't agree more with this list taken from the book "What Got You Here Won't Get You There". Humble, servant-minded leadership is one of our core values - something each of our staff members and consultants strive to embody in all our interactions, both on and off the clock. We all know what poor leadership looks like, right? Probably every one of us has had a boss at some time or another that showed us exactly the kind of leader we DON'T want to be. If we let it, this negative example can be excellent fuel for our desire to do things differently. Instead of feeling bitter about such experiences, we can try to see them as valuable lessons, hard as that may be. Does this resonate with your experience? What have you personally learned from the worst boss you've ever had? Conversely...could you tell us about the first time you remember seeing a truly great example of servant leadership?

The longer you serve and grow, the more we are driven to learn the principles on what to do when it comes to being a good leader/person…what I appreciated most from one of my favorite books (What Got You Here Won’t Get You There) is a list of things NOT to do… Whenever I’ve needed a good refresher over the years, I turn to this list. As a leader, it’s about making other people into the best version of themselves - rather than creating a carbon copy of you. This book is also a reminder to me of where we have to go as an United States Air Force. Each of our Airmen will be key to making sure we get there, and each of them are part of a winning team. Have a fantastic Monday, folks…be deliberate and purposeful! #whatgotyouherewontgetyouthere #AirForceWeNeed #youbelong

I'll start with a tale of two very different math teachers...(and for context, I have a math disability that went undiagnosed til after uni). My high school Geometry teacher (Mr. X) was *eccentric*. He used to be a college professor, and never let us forget it.. His fail rate was so high that his relationship with our sports coaches, who regularly had half their lineups on the D-F list, was... contentious. Teaching, for Mr. X, seemed to be less about helping students grasp complex topics, and more about perplexing us for his own amusement. Needless to say, I BARELY passed, and my self-esteem was in shreds. In college I took what was essentially a remedial math class, just praying to pass. I had ZERO faith in myself. I was thrilled to get my first ever B! My professor (Mr. Z) was the total opposite of X. He never made us feel silly for asking questions, and wouldn't move on to the next step until every student understood the current one. He explained things in ways that finally made sense to me, and his patience with my confusion was unflagging. That was the least painful math class of my life, and I was SO proud of myself for what I accomplished! That's the power of a great teacher - and a great leader.

This video conversation I had on my show with one of my former awesome supervisors shares a lot. https://youtu.be/cYoDcCr0nzc
