'You Can See Me, But I Dont Exist' Photobook In the UK, people seeking asylum endure extended periods of uncertainty while awaiting a response to their applications. Unable to work, they may endure poverty or destitution, poor physical and mental health, and even internment in a detention centre. If their application is rejected, they must come to terms with not only the wasted years but also the frightening prospect of being forced to return to a country that they risked all to leave. Those who remain in the UK after their asylum application has been rejected face an uncertain and insecure future, entirely dependent on the support of family, friends, and charitable organisations. Exhibition-in-a-book Intended for display in libraries and schools across the UK during Refugee Week 2023 and beyond to raise awareness of issues affecting asylum seekers, “You can see me, but I don’t exist” has been designed as an exhibition-in-a-book. It is presented in a binder with installation suggestions and can be returned to the binder at the end of the exhibition to be experienced as a book. The exhibition-in-a-book includes refugee portraits by Alan Gignoux, poems written by refugees in response to the images, an introductory essay about the asylum process in the UK by policy researcher Woodren Brade, suggestions on how to install the exhibition, tips for writing workshop prompts, an A2 foldout poster with the exhibition title. A limited number of the books are being made available for sale to support the project. The remainder will be sent to libraries and schools for their use, free of charge. The project and exhibition are sponsored by a National Lottery Project Grant awarded by Arts Council England. https://lnkd.in/etbnT4VJ

"Have you ever heard of the concept of “Majority World”? Coined by Bangladeshi photographer Shahidul Alam (https://lnkd.in/gY53es9h), it refers to the fact that people belonging to contexts called “developing” or “Third World” are, well, exactly that: the majority of the world’s population.” - Miša Krenčeyová, Fairpicture Credit: Mauro Vombe/ HelpAge / Fairpicture #Fairpicture #VisualStorytelling #ImpactfulPhotography #EthicalJournalism #Sustainability #Nonprofits #NGOs #CorporateResponsibility #EthicalStorytelling #CommunityStorytelling #FairContentProduction #ImpactDriven #Photography #RepresentationMatters #Storytelling #EthicalFundraising #EthicalVisualCommunication #VideoProduction #PhotoProduction #FreelancePhotographer #Dignity

The Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) is the world’s largest informal, non-binding, voluntary and government-led process on migration. The 14th GFMD Summit, chaired by France focuses on the overarching theme "From environmental concerns to cultural aspects of migration: adopting an inclusive approach to meet the challenges and increases the opportunities for human mobility". I was invited to speak about my humanitarian photography and show the “Portraits of Resilience” work at the Centre International de Conférences Genève last week between 23rd and 26th of January. Portraits of Resilience features photographs of survivors from around the world who fled their home countries seeking safety, recovery, and political asylum. The GFMD was created upon the proposal of the UN Secretary-General at the September 2006 General Assembly High Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development. Its main purpose is to address, in a transparent manner, the multidimensional aspects, opportunities and challenges related to international migration and its inter-linkages with development, to bring together government expertise from all regions, to enhance dialogue and cooperation and partnership and to foster practical and action-oriented outcomes at the national, regional, and global levels. #photography #humanitarian #photographer # portrait #resilience #photo #makeadifference #GMDS #asylumseeker #migration #humanrights

As a photographer, I thrive on capturing the essence and individuality of each person I photograph. Yet, another side I find exciting as well is the vibrant energy of events. They are a powerful testament to the strength of human connection. Whether it's celebrating milestones, acknowledging achievements, or raising funds for a cause, events showcase the collective power of people coming together. As social beings, our need for connection has evolved, becoming a part of who we are in various ways. When I photograph events, one of my biggest goals is to capture those fleeting moments of genuine connection. It's in these moments that the true spirit of the gathering shines through—the laughter shared, the bonds strengthened, and the collective drive to achieve something greater. These photographs are more than just images; they are stories of unity and collaboration. They remind us of our innate ability to connect, inspire, and create change as a community. Through my lens, I aim to immortalize these powerful moments, giving people a glimpse into the beauty and impact of coming together. It's amazing, when I think about it, that I get to document these experiences and contribute to a visual narrative that highlights the best of humanity. --- #EventPhotography #SmallBusiness
