Forget about the delays. This is a silly aircraft order. I believe this, for a few reasons: We must understand, that the government of the UAE owns EK and FZ. They basically run both airlines. Emirates has the stout wide body network, connecting the world to Dubai. Flydubai, however, is a 737 loyalist, stretching the limits of the aircraft as the "lower cost" and "semi-regional" airline. Kind of think of it a mainline and regional carrier. These airlines each have distinct roles that beautifully complement each other. Emirates has the 787-8 and -10 on order. This, to me, is the best move the airline could have made. This opens up thinner markets for the EK brand. Think LTN, KEF, or even AGP (Malaga). This order will also be important to opening new cities in Africa that cannot be served by Flydubai currently. We can consider Kano, Douala, and Freetown. I'll go as far to say new American markets like Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale or Detroit. So if they ordered the Dreamliner, why would Flydubai do so? If they choose to fly it to the same markets as Emirates, it will greatly dilute the EK brand. I only say this, because the FZ CEO stated that it will likely have 3 classes. The whole reason that Emirates ordered these smaller birds, was to sneak into smaller markets. If FZ wanted to do that, it would have made more sense to double down on the A350 for Emirates, and cede the Dreamliner to Flydubai. If FZ was that sold on the 789, the better strategy would be as such: - DITCH the 3 classes! Implement a tourist configuration, maybe a few premium economy seats up front. Order the 787-8 as well. Deploy these aircraft to markets like London-Gatwick, Lagos, Entebbe, and Jeddah. Basically markets that wouldn't mind the lower fares, and could compliment the more premium offering of Emirates. This is assuming that Flydubai would overlap networks. Please note, there IS some overlap already (ex. Addis Ababa). A config fix is the difference between diluting and complimenting Emirates. What FZ has with the 737 network, works. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, especially if the sister airline already solved the problem.

The Middle East's aviation industry is bracing for increased competition as Dubai carriers embark on a massive expansion and Saudi Arabia gears up to launch a new national airline. Saudi Arabia's ambitious plans to triple annual passenger traffic by 2030 are expected to shake up the region's aviation landscape, challenging the dominance of Dubai and Doha as major travel hubs. Riyadh Air, the kingdom's new state-backed airline, aims to differentiate itself by focusing on point-to-point traffic rather than relying on transit passengers. Experts believe that there is enough demand to support both Emirates and Qatar Airways, as well as Riyadh Air, suggesting that the Middle East's aviation sector is poised for a period of robust growth. #aviation #MiddleEast #Dubai #SaudiArabia #airlines #competition #expansion #newairline #travel #tourism https://lnkd.in/gQeiCzFB

Three big aviation bosses on the BB: 1) Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths announced DXB’s ‘absolutely amazing’ Q3/9M numbers live on the show this morning – 64.5m passengers ytd, an average of 7.6m a month – putting them on track to surpass 2019 traffic. And that’s without China back to full strength. 2) Also bullish was flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith, after buying his first widebodies: 30 787 Dreamliners. The possibilities for those planes are ‘endless’ he says, although he wouldn’t be drawn on new destinations. Ghaith (below) says this financial year will be more profitable for FlyDubai than the last – itself 40 % up on the year before - predicting a ‘damn good year’. 3) Emirates boss HH Sheikh Ahmed also in high spirits after their purchase of 90 777Xs, saying he expects to see continued growth in H2 – ‘a good number’ – on the back of record H1 earnings. 4) All those new planes mean Dubai needs a new airport for the 2030s, says Paul Griffiths. The ‘DWC mega-hub’ with be the ‘largest plan the world has ever seen’, he promises – but DXB itself needs to do something to meet growing demand until then. The ‘boffins in the back office’ are working on a plan.
