Last week, we had our very first internal hackathon at Banxware. The Agile Manifesto states, "Simplicity—the art of maximizing the amount of work not done—is essential," and there is no better event than a hackathon to put this into practice. The limited amount of time forces teams to prioritize what truly delivers value and to build it. Anything "nice to have" or any "what ifs" are postponed to future iterations, when users will validate whether they are truly valuable. Teams attempting to do everything probably won't have anything running to show at the end of the event, and (quoting the Agile Manifesto again), "our highest priority is to satisfy the customer through early and continuous delivery." In the end, being a professional engineer is not about playing with the latest libraries released (although it is very cool!); instead, it's about constantly delivering value to customers through code.

Imagine losing $16 million on a video game 🎮 In 2009, Butterfield co-founded a new company called Tiny Speck They raised around $16 million to build a game called Glitch Tiny Speck launched its first project, the massively multiplayer game Glitch, on September 27, 2011 This allowed players to shape the worlds inside the minds of 11 giants through quests and cooperative gameplay In essence, a giant sandbox-style game Glitch permanently closed in December 2012 The Tiny Speck team realised that the true potential of the game was unlocked when players began collaborating with others They realised that they could create something better, tailored to their needs and working style They needed a tool that could be fully asynchronous One where they can log out and log in, upload docs and the messages left for them would be waiting In 2014, Tiny Speck was officially renamed to Slack Technologies and launched to the public. The team started reaching out to their friends at other companies and asked if they wanted to try it out. By the end of 2014, Slack had raised $180 million By 2016, Slack was reportedly used by 77% of Fortune 100 companies.
