Florence Copper is excited to announce that the Florence Copper Community Foundation has awarded $9,000 in grants to local organizations in the second quarter of 2024. The recipients included: -Poston Butte High School: $1,500 to support staff lounge renovations -Friends of Pinal County Animal Shelter & Rescues, Inc.: $2,000 for their spay/neuter voucher program -South Florence Volunteer Fire Department: $2,500 to support the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) for volunteer fire fighters -FUSD Community Education: $1,500 for their Backpack Drive, helping ensure over 2,500 backpacks filled with supplies were distributed to students -Friends of the Casa Grande Ruins: $1,500 to support Phase III of their pollinator garden John Mays, General Manager of Florence Copper, shared, "We are honored to support such worthy causes through the Florence Copper Community Foundation." Florence Copper was honored to be recognized by the Coolidge-Florence Elks Lodge with a Certificate of Honor for the project’s care and display of the American flag at the Florence Copper Administration Building. Florence Copper’s electrician team, Abraham (Abe) Sepahi, Jacob Clonts, and Arthur Ridenhour, and Process Control/IT Administrator Dave Reeves accepted the award on behalf of Florence Copper. Abraham, Jacob, and Arthur ensure that Florence Copper’s American flag is illuminated at night, while Dave, a veteran, is responsible for ensuring Florence Copper’s American flag is handled with the proper protocol and respect. Meet Cohen Scott, one of the winners of the Florence Copper Creating Opportunities Scholarship! Cohen is a graduate of San Tan Foothills High School and plans to attend Augsburg University to study kinesiology. He shared how his scholarship will help him give back to the community with his degree: "I am incredibly grateful that I will have the opportunity to continue to play baseball in college and will take the encouragement and guidance I have received from this community and school with me...I hope that my future allows me to return to the community that encouraged and helped me grow and give back to the schools and sports teams by helping with training, coaching, and educating students on their bodies." Since our scholarship program was established in 2011, Florence Copper has awarded more than $91,000 in scholarships to talented students in Florence and surrounding communities to help them pursue higher education.
