🗳 "Ahead of the European elections taking place from 6 to 9 June, the European Commission has published a Eurobarometer on Youth and Democracy, revealing early indications of 64% of young people saying they intend to vote. Today is #DemocracyDay. 🗳 In less than 300 days, European citizens will be invited to vote at the European elections. In an age of increasing Euroscepticism and polarisation, cities are at the forefront of participatory initiatives that foster a sense of community and directly involve residents in decision-making processes, all while affirming European values. Africa is geared up for a busy year of elections with 19 polls scheduled for 2024, 14 of which will be held between June and December. Elections are a cornerstone of democracy, allowing registered voters to choose representatives who will act on behalf of the entire country. Considering this, the size of the National Assembly relative to the population becomes important to observe. There are varied theories regarding the proportionality of the National Assembly with arguments considering it a reflection of diversity and multiplicity of opinions, while others consider it a wasteful expenditure and advocate for a leaner structure.
