Hey LinkedIn family!
Have you ever been part of a big school project with lots of friends and somehow ended up disagreeing on something? Maybe how to build the best cardboard castle or who gets to be the group leader? Well, in the grown-up world of building real castles (and bridges, and houses), we also sometimes disagree. And just like in school, we need to find a good way to fix our problems so we can all be happy and finish our project.
As someone who helps lead projects, I’ve seen my fair share of disagreements on construction sites and design offices. I know how important it is to resolve these disputes in a way that’s fair and doesn't take up too much time. After all, we want to get back to building as soon as possible!
There are lots of ways to solve these grown-up disagreements, called 'disputes.' It’s like choosing whether to have a teacher help decide who's right, sit in a circle and talk it out until everyone agrees, or even ask someone outside of school to help. Each way has its pluses and minuses, and what works best can depend on the kind of project we’re working on.
In my years on the job, I’ve seen that no matter what method we choose, the key is to talk with each other openly and try to understand where everyone is coming from. It’s like teamwork in class - when we listen and work together, we can find a solution that lets us all win and create something awesome.
So, next time you find yourself in a disagreement, remember that it’s all about finding the best way to work things out. Whether you’re building a cardboard castle or a skyscraper, solving problems is a super important skill!
