For Grammy-nominated producer and engineer Beau Vallis, becoming a freelancer on Fiverr was an opportunity to pay everything he knows about the music industry forward.
Since joining the platform, he's never forgotten a client — including the one that was his millionth-dollar sale. For him, reaching the milestone of earning more than $1 million is a testament to how hard work and consistency pay off. His advice to freelancers looking to reach the same milestone? "Stay persistent. Outwork the competition...and have a trick or two up your sleeve." #MilestoneInTheMillions
My most memorable fiber gig would probably have to be the millionth dollar sale. Not for a money amount. It's more symbolic. That's something cool that I can show my kids and say, you know, this is what $1,000,000 looks like. And that hard work is rewarded and respected. My name is Beau Vallis, I'm an engineer, singer, producer from Miami, FL. I was born into the music business. My dad's a professional drummer, my mom's a professional dancer. At 18 I moved to Miami, FL to intern under world renowned engineer Jimmy Douglas. Jimmy gave me my first shot to work with Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child and I was our personal engineer for seven years. Through my incredible relationship with Kelly, I've been able to work with some of the greatest artists and producers of our generation. The reason I became interested in freelancing really is just because the music business comes in waves, so I really just want to open up a new source of income. When I first started out, I wrote my very first client's name on a piece of paper and I said I'm going to write down every single client's name until I get to $1,000,000. Fibers help me breakthrough in life in so many ways. Hitting that $1,000,000 mark was a nod of approval, showed me when I set goals, I achieved them. I'm not scared to sacrifice. With the long road to the finish line, it's hard to build a profile. From scratch, but it's all about persistence. Fivers helped me reach that next level financially to be able to provide for my family. And now taking those earnings off of fiber, I've been able to invest and things like rental properties and other businesses. Starting from somewhere near the bottom to where I am now comes with a long road of lessons, stuff you really only learn from experience. What I enjoy most about being on fiber is paying it forward, being used as a tool for young artists and producers, something I wish I had when I was first starting out.

Current leverage (Leverage = Total Debt / Total Wealth) equal to 0.0129 - Once upon a time in Germany, there lived a talented Dynamics 365 freelancer named Max. Max was passionate about his work and had built a successful career in the world of enterprise software solutions. However, he always felt that something was missing, both personally and professionally.
Max had a vision of achieving a unique balance between his personal and professional life. He dreamt of expanding his skills and broadening his horizons while simultaneously enjoying a fulfilling personal life. One day, he stumbled upon a concept called "leverage" during a late-night research session. It fascinated him.
Leverage, in Max's newfound understanding, was the ratio between his total debt and total wealth. Intrigued by this concept, Max decided to apply it to his own life. Max believed that he could do better. He yearned for a way to optimize his personal and professional life to increase this leverage ratio.
During one of his brainstorming sessions, Max recalled the beautiful region of Murcia in Spain. He had visited Murcia on a short vacation a few years ago and was struck by its serene landscapes, affordable cost of living, and the relaxed lifestyle of its inhabitants. Max wondered if he could leverage this region to enhance his personal and professional life.
Max decided to embark on a new adventure. He chose to spend a portion of his time in Murcia while continuing his freelance work. He found a cozy apartment with a stunning view of the Murcian countryside and quickly adapted to the Spanish way of life. He enjoyed long walks in the sun-drenched vineyards, indulged in delicious tapas, and savored the slower pace of life.
Professionally, Max's decision turned out to be a game-changer. With the help of modern technology and his trusted laptop, he continued to serve his clients from Murcia. However, the cost of living in this region was significantly lower than in Germany. Max managed to reduce his expenses, enabling him to save more and increase his wealth over time.
As the months passed, Max's leverage ratio began to shift. His debt remained the same, but his wealth increased steadily. With a more balanced and cost-effective lifestyle in Murcia, he watched his leverage ratio grow closer to his goal. It was not long before his leverage ratio reached 0.0129, the exact figure he had initially set his sights on.
Max's story became an inspiration for many in the freelancing world. He had successfully leveraged his personal and professional life, achieving the balance he had always sought. Max's journey taught him that sometimes, achieving personal and professional leverage requires thinking outside the box, exploring new horizons, and making strategic decisions that align with one's goals.
As Max sat on his Murcian balcony, sipping a glass of locally produced wine, he marveled at how his short visits to this cheap and beautiful region had transformed his life.

Thank you to all of you who have reposted this and please do keep sharing it to ALL FREELANCERS ,so important and some quotes from the industry people and someone called Paul Jones too
The Hidden Side of Freelancing 2024, to understand and identify the changes required to improve the experience of freelancers who are crucial to the success of the live music industry.
The survey will explore pay transparency and the personal experiences of freelancers at live music events. The survey aims to help freelancers understand their true value and benchmark their own experience whilst also celebrating what makes live music a great industry for freelancers. The results will then be assessed, culminating in a publicly available report that will be published in April 2024.
Industry organisations such as Entourage Pro, Production Futures, NOWIE, Rego, and Power of Events are all key supporting partners of the survey.
Jon Collins, CEO, LIVE, said: “Freelancers are crucial to the success of the live music ecosystem and our industry relies on them to deliver unforgettable experiences for fans. This survey will give freelancers in our industry the information needed to get the most out of the work they do and help to deliver impact change for every freelancer and the organisations that rely on freelance talent.”
Suzi Green, Tour Manager and manager of the BACK LOUNGE. said: “We were hearing on The BACK LOUNGE that new people coming into the industry had no idea what to charge, and more seasoned crew were unsure given how much things have changed post-pandemic. Last summer rates were up, but with less work around this year, and ever tighter budgets, where are they now?
“The results will be openly available, and we hope it can open up further dialogue about protecting ourselves as freelancers, especially given that for many of us, verbal agreements are still the norm. Having the survey answered anonymously will hopefully bring to light some of the day rate conversations we’re often encouraged not to have. If no one knows what everyone else is charging how will rates ever go up?”
Paul Jones, Technical Production Manager said: "One of the biggest single questions raised on the Live Event Freelancers Forum is about wages and pay rates. This survey gives every live event freelancer a chance to give accurate and honest information, and anonymously if need be. There has never been more of a need to gain accurate information on pay and conditions for the freelance community so we can gather valuable insight and help shape the future of our sector and industry well into the future.
“If you are a freelancer in the live sector, you should not ignore this survey. It should be one of the most important things you do in 2024. It's your industry, let’s make a difference.”

TODAY IS THE DAY
The survey is here
Help to be part of the solution. Every single business in LIVE events uses freelancers
It's finally here after months of hard work and dedication from a whole team of people working to produce a survey that’s rooted in helping to improve freelancers' pay and conditions.
Launched today, the new survey will explore pay transparency and the personal experiences of freelancers at live music events. The survey aims to help freelancers understand their true value and benchmark their own experience whilst also celebrating what makes live music a great industry for freelancers. The results will then be assessed, culminating in a publicly available report that will be published in April 2024.
The data collected for this is going to help shape the future and improve our conditions BUT not if you don’t participate.
There are only a few mandatory questions, and you can skip through them if you wish. It’s totally anonymous so you your answers and the data is GDPR GDPR-compliant. The key here is the more you fill in the more you will help benefit our future.
It will be far easier for some of you to complain about this than actually participate but we have spent a lot of time collectively with a focus group of freelancers getting feedback as well as helped by Chief Economist Chris Carey. If you feel the need to complain do it on the survey, there's opportunity to do this.
Please help us shape the industry it is not just another survey. We think it’s the most important one to date as there is so little qualified data about freelancers, but we aim to change this.
So, grab a brew and help unite this industry. I’ve been championing you all for nearly 4 years and never asked for anything.
UNTIL NOW

As freelancers, our creations are our lifeblood. Knowing how to protect our work and navigate copyright issues is essential. 🎨📝
Here are some key points every freelancer should know about copyright:
📌 What is Copyright? Copyright is an intellectual property right that gives creators exclusive rights to their work from the moment they create it. This ownership lasts until 70 years after the creator's death.
📌 Freelancers and Copyright Ownership Typically, freelancers own the copyright to their work unless otherwise agreed in a contract. This means you have the right to sell, license, or keep your creations.
📌 Work for Hire If a contract includes the term "work for hire," the client, not the freelancer, will own the copyright. Always review your contracts carefully.
📌 Assignments and Buyouts Assignments of copyright transfer all rights to the client, while buyouts can cover various uses for a set period and price. Clarify these terms with your clients to avoid misunderstandings.
📌 Negotiating Terms If a client asks for an assignment of copyright, explain that you don’t sell copyright and suggest an alternative agreement. It's essential to protect your long-term rights and income.
📌 Avoiding Unethical Contracts Watch out for retrospective terms, where clients offer contracts after the work is done and won't pay until you sign.
Always agree on terms and sign the contract before starting any work.
Understanding these concepts can save you from potential pitfalls and ensure you maintain control over your creative work. Protect your rights and thrive in your freelancing career!
