📖 Just finished Jordan Peterson's '12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos.' A lengthy, but profound read! 📚 📏The Breakdown: ➡Rule 1: Fix your Posture “Stand up straight with your shoulders back” ➡Rule 2: Care for yourself like how you’d care for someone else “Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping” ➡Rule 3: Surround yourself with people who want the best for you “Make friends with people who want the best for you” ➡Rule 4: Improve your own game instead of playing others’ “Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today” ➡Rule 5: Teach your children to abide by society’s rules “Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them” ➡Rule 6: Get your own house in order before criticizing others “Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world” ➡Rule 7: Focus on a higher purpose, not instant gratification “Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)” ➡Rule 8: Find your personal truth and live it “Tell the truth—or, at least, don’t lie” ➡Rule 9: Learn to be a good listener “Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don’t” ➡Rule 10: Define your problem precisely to make it manageable “Be precise in your speech” ➡Rule 11: Accept that inequality exists “Do not bother children when they are skateboarding” ➡Rule 12: Take time to appreciate the good things in life “Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street” #PersonalDevelopment #Leadership #SelfImprovement

I cannot over emphasize how true this is for me! As a new parent, having managers who were also parents made a profound difference to me. Their willingness to share personal challenges and vulnerabilities not only made their advice more impactful but also fostered a deeper connection. Navigating the emotional landscape of managing creative teams is something I see as unique. My own journey has been one of intense emotional investment in my work, often finding it difficult to detach. This entanglement meant needing surrounding myself with diverse opinions and engaging in thorough discussions. Observing similar traits in my teams underscored the complexity of managing emotions and empathy. However, it wasn't until I witnessed my daughter exhibiting similar reactions to situations that I began to truly understand the importance of maintaining calm, managing heightened emotions, and cultivating empathy. This personal revelation has been transformative in shaping my approach to leadership. It has underscored the importance of being tuned into the needs of the individual—not just as managerial skills, but as vital life lessons imparted by my daughter. I'm curious to hear from others: What lessons have your children taught you that you've integrated into your management playbook or professional ethos? #creativecommunity #management #drivingimpact
Among the most exciting moments of the superbowl was post game. Andy Reid, Head Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, attributed his ability to manage through players’ intensity because of raising his five children. Parenting is the ultimate training ground. Yes, to men and women owning it on the biggest of stages.

Group Managing Partner at Topmarkè Attorneys LLP; Immigration Lawyer, Workplace Issue Consultant, Story-teller, Story-Based Trainer, Writer, Public Speaker, Corporate Event Emcee
It was a very engaging session with the students of Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, Nigeria. It was a privilege to be one of the many experienced individuals intentionally sourced by the school to speak to the students about various life issues including preparing for adulthood. The management of Premiere Academy takes the firmed position that in addition to the excellent academic teachings the school provides, the students should be safely exposed to learning through the experiences of others. Our talking points during the session included adulthood expectations and realities, self-discovery and relationships, adaptability, mental health and well-being. We discussed adulthood myths including the misconception that adults have everything figured out, that adulthood is all about perpetual fun and unrestricted freedom and that adulthood means having no rules or restrictions. In reality, we discussed that adulthood is about lifelong-evolution, responsible freedom and ethical autonomy. We delved into the pillars of self-disvovery including self-awareness, challenging oneself and being intentional. We also discussed the importance of creating healthy relationships, fostering meaningful connections, being respectful, adaptive and developing good communication ethics including an active listening skill. Finally, we discussed mental health and well-being including managing stress caused by career uncertainties, peer pressure, life changes, financial concerns, personal expectations, relationships, among others. We emphasized the importance of speaking out about life struggles and mental health issues to the right people in a safe environment. The session was fun, engaging and educational. The students asked questions that were of importance to their careers, self-discovery, relationships with others, mental health, personal growth and development. This collaborative approach by Premiere Academy with experienced professionals, students, staff and the management is crucial for many reasons. It creates a relaxed, non classroom learning setting for the students. It also provides an opportunity for the students to be mentored by professionals with world view experience that will help shape the decisions of the students. Such programs also helps the students to understand who they are, what they want and how to navigate through life. Kudos to the management, staff and students of this amazing school. Thanks for the opportunity to share some of my knowledge with you all.

A key phrase in this interview. “As a professional” professionals do things amatures won’t do. Professionals seek any advantage they can get. Amateurs say I don’t need that, or I can handle it.
