[PDF] Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People Jack G. Shaheen digsell https://lnkd.in/ewhrqmvg Shaheen’s book is an important addition in the arena of stereotyping in film and television. His work has been used in several of my graduate and undergraduate courses, and this book will only future his importance in this subject. It is not that Shaheen is asking that Arabs not be shown as the “villain” but that they should also be show as the hero and victims. There is a serious need for this book in modern film studies. https://lnkd.in/ePHK5jWd

It's time to recognize a new category at the Academy Awards: Most Important Film of the Year! My vote for 2024 would go to one of the entries nominated for Best Documentary Short: "The Barber of Little Rock" (https://lnkd.in/gwQfcRtN). This powerful 30-minute story should be on everyone's watch list as it succinctly captures the struggles faced by so many under-resourced American families and communities today. The film sheds light on the systemic barriers preventing the closing of the U.S. wealth gap, and how one man is making a difference by starting a community bank in his hometown. It's a must-watch for anyone seeking to understand the challenges roughly 50% of Americans face in building any meaningful generational wealth, and the importance of access to financial resources. Let's hope the Academy moves beyond popularity contests by doing more to recognize and uplift the importance of films like "The Barber of Little Rock" to help build greater awareness of the most important social, cultural and economic issues of our time. #AcademyAwards #WealthGap #GenerationalWealth #CommunityBanking #CDFI

Introducing our 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 fiction project, Little Brown Bird. Funded by the Isle of Man Arts Council and co-produced by Focus Shift Films, this emotionally-driven short film written and directed by Pete Rogers follows Eliza Butterworth's Kate, an overworked farm worker who must care for her dementia-stricken father (John Rhys Davies). The true horror in the story is the tragedy of his condition, with Kate getting to see only glimpses of the person she loves.
