Don't Get Left Behind: Upcoming Legislative Changes The Australian workplace landscape is constantly evolving, and keeping up with new regulations can feel overwhelming, but we are here to help. A little reminder: failing to stay informed can expose your business to unnecessary risks. Coming soon in July 2024 • National Minimum Wage: An increase to 3.75% which applies to all award and non-awards agreements. • Additional parental leave: An additional two weeks of parental leave pay. • Superannuation Guarantee: Rate from 11% for 2023-2024 will increase to 11.5% from July 2024. • Work Health & Safety: Amendments will introduce an industrial manslaughter offence, increasing penalties and criminal responsibilities. Coming soon in August 2024 • Fair Work Amendment (Closing Loopholes No.2) Bill includes new definition of 'casual' employment and pathways to permanent employment. Comes into effect August 2024. • The Right to Disconnect: will be included in all modern awards by August 2024. • Definition of Employee: You could be fined if you mistakenly call someone a contractor when they are an employee and must consider your actual working relationship. Crikey, the never-ending conga line of regulatory requirements - they're daunting, to put it mildly. It's obvious that businesses need help but I'm wondering if Australia is too regulated compared with some other countries.
