🔌 Exciting Update from Solukhumbu, Nepal! ⚡️ We're happy to share the results of our electric cooking research project in the remote, off-grid Micro hydro powered community of the Solukhumbu district. 🏔️ After a year of implementation, we returned to witness the change in cooking behavior. The impact has been transformative, and we're eager to share our findings with you. 🌟 Positive Participant Response: Participants have warmly embraced eCooking, with the proportion of dishes cooked using electricity soaring from 31% to an impressive 43%. This shift signifies not only a change in cooking methods but also a shift towards cleaner, more efficient energy sources. 🌬️ Smokeless Kitchens and Enhanced Convenience: One of the most striking changes reported was the transition to a smokeless kitchen environment. Moreover, participants found themselves able to multitask efficiently, thanks to the ease and convenience of electric stoves like the EPC model. So much so that 27% of participants went ahead and purchased additional appliances independently. 👥 Ripple Effect on Non-Participants: Our pilot project's impact extended beyond participants. A heartening 20% of surveyed individuals who hadn't initially participated purchased eCooking devices. This ripple effect showcases the potential for widespread adoption and the role of community influence. 🌱 Accelerating Adoption for a Sustainable Future: Our study unearthed valuable insights for accelerating eCooking adoption 1️ Hands-On Experience: Live demonstrations that offer firsthand experience with the technology can boost adoption rates. 2 Local Engagement: Providing free trials and demonstrations through local vendors can bridge knowledge gaps and build trust. 3 Subsidy Mechanisms: Our findings suggest that partial subsidies ranging from 30% to 50% on eCooking stoves could significantly incentivize households to embrace this sustainable cooking solution. 4 Comprehensive Services: Offering post-sales support, easy access to repairs & maintenance services can enhance user experience and confidence in the technology.
