According to the MENA Late-Stage Venture Funding Premium Report released by venture capital data platform MAGNiTT, the MENA region raised $643 million in late-stage funding during the year’s first six months. Only 13% of the total capital deployed in late-stage rounds in H1 ’23 came from international investors, signaling a shift in VC dynamics as regional investors led transactions and funding in late-stage rounds for the first time.

The co-founders, with backgrounds at Collaborative Fund, Lerer Hippeau, Canaan, and Primary Venture Partners, emphasize an "old-school" venture capital approach focused on trust, maintaining a small fund size, high conviction, high ownership, and making a low number of investments. The firm aims to lead or co-lead pre-seed and seed financings in New York City-based startups in fintech, healthcare, energy, SMB, and consumer sectors, with a goal of earning a 10% to 15% ownership stake. The new funds include an $80M second early-stage fund and a $28M opportunity fund. 🇺🇸 Material Impact III: $352M Boston-based venture firm Material Impact has unveiled their Fund III dedicated to supporting early-stage companies focused on materials science innovations. The firm, with $800M in AUM and 30 portfolio companies, emphasizes the pivotal role of material science in driving disruptive innovations across various industries. Material Impact aims to address significant global challenges, including extreme weather consequences, supply chain vulnerabilities, increased energy and transportation demand, and clean water scarcity. The firm distinguishes itself by starting early with small checks and providing ongoing support throughout a startup's mission. Existing portfolio companies include Debut (cell-free bio-manufacturing) and DetraPel (PFAS-free coatings), among others. 🇺🇸 53 Stations Fund I: $190M Chicago-based venture capital firm 53 Stations has been launched, focusing on early-stage, tech-focused businesses across various industries in the U.S. Supported solely by The Pritzker Organization (TPO), the firm brings over 60 years of company-building expertise, acting as a 'whatever-it-takes' service provider for Seed to Series B companies. Notable features include being embedded in a deep network of operators and investors, providing access to scaled businesses in the TPO portfolio, unrestricted by investment mandates, and capable of supporting portfolio companies from early stages through IPO. 53 Stations prioritizes exceptional founders and leadership teams, investing in seven companies across five industries since its founding in 2022. The team is led by Jason Sussman, Kevin King, and Kelly Goldstein. The firm's $190M Fund I targets early-stage tech companies across the U.S., leading and co-investing with initial checks ranging from $1M to $10M.
