How does gender and finance intersect? What is gender lens investing? How does one align financial systems with gender equality and development goals? And what are the frameworks that integrate gender and finance? Are there any standard governing how contextualised gender analysis is integrated into initiatives within innovative finance, gender lens investing, or impact investing? These and many more questions are going around our heads when we heard about this interesting workshop designed to deepen the ability of those working on gender equality to use finance as a social change strategy. ANDE South Asia (a part of the Advancing Research and Investment Standards for Gender Equity (ARISE) project), in consortium with the Criterion Institute & 2X Global and in partnership with ICRW, are organising this TRANSLATION workshop tomorrow and will equip participants to translate their knowledge, data sets, and expertise on gender equality to the language of finance. It was a pleasure to attend the 2 day Gender Equality and Inclusion Forum in Bangkok that officially launched the five-year (2025–2030) GMS Gender Strategy Implementation Plan (GSIP). Thank you to the Asian Development Bank for inviting me. The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) faces complex challenges—climate change, demographic shifts, rapid technological advancement that threaten progress while offering potential for transformative solutions. Promoting gender equality is one of the priorities on the cross-cutting agenda of the Greater Mekong Subregion Program. To pursue this goal, the GMS Gender Strategy was developed in 2022 to enhance gender mainstreaming in the GMS Program and address gender-based barriers and pervasive gender norms. A GMS Program Strategic Framework 2030 (GMS- 2030) was formulated, which highlights the intersectional impacts of gender inequalities across the three pillars of (i) community, (ii) connectivity, and (iii) competitiveness. This report shows how improving gender mainstreaming via the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program Strategic Framework 2030 (GMS-2030) can bolster inclusivity and ensure women benefit equally from regional cooperation initiatives. #ADB #Genderequality&inclusion https://lnkd.in/efMY5R5N

#FeministFriday: The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 5️⃣ aims for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. In 2023 alone: 🚺 30% of direct grants for local communities in Kenya 🇰🇪 went to women-led projects, supporting them to lead action on forestry, land and the environment. 🚺 To increase women's economic empowerment and enhance energy policy frameworks that hasten gender equality, the Powering Gender Equality initiative injected support to existing energy programmes in Ethiopia 🇪🇹, Eswatini 🇸🇿, Madagascar 🇲🇬, and Malawi 🇲🇼. 🚺 Ethiopia adopted a new national policy that integrates gender equality into energy frameworks, enhancing women's role in decision-making in energy. 🚻 The United Nations Development Programme - UNDP's recently released mid-term review of its 2022–2025 gender equality strategy indicates that endeavours to accelerate gender equality have yielded positive results in many countries. Many targets have been met, and in turn, new goals have been set ✅ that move women closer towards more representation and participation in processes, empowerment and equality. Of course, more work still needs to be done. Overall, the report highlights that ensuring women are in decision-making positions is important, everywhere but especially in countries that are facing crises.
