𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝐱 - 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 (𝐈𝐀𝐬), 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐬 (𝐑𝐀𝐬) 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞?  In the world of finance and investments, performance number or presentation is by far the most important factor in grabbing the eyeballs of an investor. The social media channels - YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. are all about tall claims and performance posts. These claims made by individuals, intermediaries, and entities are mostly self-verified and currently, there is no dedicated agency to validate such claims. Being an investment professional, I have come across such situations and have seen such posts prevalent in the industry many times. To curb the misrepresentation and reporting SEBI has proposed to create an independent body called 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 (‘𝗣𝗩𝗔’) to validate the claims/ performance of SEBI registered intermediaries/ other entities such as Investment Advisors (IAs), Research Analysts (RAs), Portfolio Managers (PMS), Asset Management Companies (Mutual Fund Houses), stock brokers, etc. It may not solve the problem completely, yet it’s one more step in the right direction by the market regulator – SEBI. By introducing such a mechanism, SEBI is not only bolstering investor confidence but also sending a strong message that it is proactive in addressing potential issues related to misrepresentation or non-compliance within the industry. The SEBI in recent times has been more proactive than ever before in my career of over a decade now – the number of consultation papers (9 in last month Aug 2023 itself) is a clear indication that it intends to increase transparency and streamline process. To read the latest Consultation Paper on Performance Validation Agency click the Link - https://lnkd.in/dPyc_72r In my opinion, creating investor awareness is the best way to curb misrepresentation or non-compliance by registered intermediaries.
