Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL’s Post

The FiBL SysCom Kenya project team travelled to Kenya to realize the Project Stakeholders Meeting. The workshop was a great opportunity to disseminate research findings under the SysCom Kenya Project, which has been running for an impressive 17 years under the leadership of FiBL. Involved partners and stakeholders are Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), ICIPE - International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology, and Kenyatta University. The meeting was hosted by KALRO HRI Kandara. SysCom Kenya aims to compare the performance of conventional and organic farming, focusing on local farming systems. The workshop celebrated the project's success so far and showed that organic farming and agro-ecological approaches can achieve similar yields compared to conventional farming if managed holistically. In addition, these alternative approaches provide benefits for soil fertility, biodiversity, and environmental and human health. Workshop participants agreed that more investment in research and capacity building is necessary to boost sustainable farming systems. 👉 Learn more about the potential of agroecology and organic agriculture in the tropics: https://lnkd.in/dw8CeJuF
