Following Rt Hon Rachel Reeves first Treasury speech as Chancellor, and the announced plans to reintroduce mandatory local housing targets, Clive Feeney MIoD, LHC’s Group Managing Director, comments: “We welcome yesterday’s announcement and recognise that delivery of those #targets and the promise of sustained economic growth will rely on a combination of factors. With the Government’s goal to deliver 1.5 million new homes in the next five years, the reintroduction of #localhousing targets will be fundamental. "LHC has been supporting the public sector for almost 60 years and know first-hand that both frameworks and SME’s play a crucial role in delivering social and affordable housing. "The use of frameworks will be critical in helping local authorities and housing associations reach the reintroduced targets in a fast and efficient manner, mitigating risks and providing long lasting, positive impact for local communities. We are here and ready to support.” For more information on our framework solutions and how they can support, visit: https://www.swpa.org.uk/ #frameworks #construction #socialhousing #procurement

Funding assurance is vital for housing association boards at a time when financial viability is under heavy scrutiny. This is why we are calling for funding certainty beyond the current 2021/26 Affordable Homes Programme end date. Without it, development schemes of over 50 homes or those that take longer than 12 months are now at risk. Read more here👉https://lnkd.in/egY_Cy2Q #PlanForHousing #ukhousing

'Transformational plans' or just another in a long line of planning headlines? In the time it took to write this article the government has already announced that the increase in planning fees won't be ring-fenced for planning departments! Just one of the many details that are still to be announced and which will have a great impact on the success (or otherwise) of these plans. Myself and my colleague Elizabeth Withers have set out some initial thoughts on proposed #planning reforms.

There is a #Paywall so I couldn’t read the article, but the title of the photo says that the development “costs less than half as much as buildings financed with public money”. I am curious what subsidizes projects they are referring to. My experience is that #HighPerformanceHomes can be built at a minimal increase in upfront costs. Low upfront costs often mean higher operating costs. What will the Total Cost of Home Ownership #TCOHO(or rent) be? If the #OperatingCosts are significantly higher because the building gets built to code minimum standards, then is it really #AffordableHousing? What if the residents end up getting sick from poor #IndoorAirQuality, and have medical bills they can’t afford? Are there lower quality materials being used that could potentially lead to building failure? Did they get properly sized mechanical equipment that can handle both the sensible and latent load? Affordable housing is much more than just the cost to build. It should be #BuiltBetter so it will actually be an affordable and #HealthyHome. #IAQ #IEQ #BuildingScience #BuildTight #VentilateRight #AllElectricHomes #ElectrifyEverything #Decarbonization #LifeCycleAnalysis #EmbodiedCarbon #OperationalCarbon
this is an eye opener - with good intention the government is trying to subsidize affordable housing but actually making it more expensive to build #affordablehousing #subsidies #government #code #regulation Deborah La Franchi SDS Capital Group Matthew O.
