>> New Project Completion Alert! << North County Fire & Rescue Fire Protection District (NCFR) recently constructed two new prototype engine houses to strengthen fire and emergency services in north St. Louis County, Missouri. Engine House No. 2 (EH2) replaced an abandoned service and filling station that was a blight on the neighborhood. Orienting the new building with drive-through apparatus bays parallel to the main road allows a compact site to: 1️⃣ accommodate the small-but-mighty engine house design and 2️⃣ provide a safe environment for firefighter paramedics EH2 embodies many AIA design excellence principles including equitable communities, economy and well-being, thereby supporting project value funded by the public, creating benefit to occupants and neighbors, and reinforcing positive outcomes for the community. The new facility is an anchor for public safety, accessible to all and centrally located to optimize emergency response. 👏 We couldn't have done it without our wonderful project team: Poettker Construction Company: Construction Manager at Risk Civil Design, Inc. : Civil Engineering SSC Engineering, Inc.: Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Technology Design Integrated Facility Services: Plumbing Design, Mechanical/HVAC #fgma #FireStationDesign #StationDesign #EngineHouse #StLouisMO #EquitableCommunity #WeBuildCommunity

As-built drawings are detailed representations of a completed construction project, showing any modifications or changes made during the building process compared to the original plans. They ensure accuracy for future maintenance, renovations, and compliance with regulations. For architects, engineers, and facility managers, as-built drawings are invaluable for preserving the integrity and safety of a structure. Let's recognize their vital role in bridging the gap between initial designs and the completed reality! 🌟 #Construction #AsBuiltDrawings #MEP #HVAC #Plumbing #Electrical #Engineering #ProjectManagement #FacilityManagement

Land development Land development is concerned with the development of large plots of land, specifically: The access and egress for people to the development and any buildings within it, like roads into and navigating around the site, pavements, and parking lots. How the development will be provided with access to the various main utilities networks, like water, electricity, and communications. It encompasses how the larger network will get to the site and the buildings within it, but not how it will then be dispersed around the individual buildings. This will be designed by Engineers within each particular trade, such as Mechanical, Engineering, and Plumbing (MEP) Engineers. Long-time valued member, Terry McKendry, recently shared insights into what hydraulic consultants do and why it is important. Buildings are complex systems and made up of many services to make them function as we expect. Today’s buildings are not just structures; they are ecosystems of innovation. From sustainable design practices to reduce environmental impact to advanced structural engineering that ensures safety and durability, every aspect demands meticulous attention and expertise. Hydraulic Services Consultants are part of a building’s overall design team which also includes Architects, Structural Engineers, Civil Engineers and Building Services Engineering (Mechanical and Electrical). This is the same for almost any type of building, from a class 1 (domestic dwelling) to large industrial, commercial or health facilities. A Hydraulic Services Consultant is a specialist who provides the design intent for all plumbing services, sanitary plumbing, drainage, hot and cold water and wet fire services that make up the vital services of a functioning building. These services are then installed by licensed tradespersons as part of the construction of the building project. The AHSCA (Association of Hydraulic Services Consultants Australia) is made up of experienced industry consultants who aim to foster a collaborative network of industry professionals and affiliated manufacturers to set the standard of industry excellence. One of the big questions we are typically faced with as Hydraulic Consultants is "Why do I need Hydraulic design". Here is a great post explaining how Hydraulic design fits in to building projects. The thing to remember is, that it doesn't matter how big or how small your project is, there is sure to be a Hydraulic aspect which can make your project a greater success than doing it without.

Apex Applied Technology awarded Riley Engineering the contract for water system improvements at the campus of Painted Desert Demonstration Projects, Inc. (PDDP), also known as the STAR School. The off-grid school is in Coconino County near the Navajo Nation and operates a water loading station for the surrounding communities. Riley estimates that approximately 15% of Navajo Nation homes do not have complete plumbing facilities and kitchens. Water haulers often must travel long distances for water and sometimes draw from unsafe sources. This project’s purpose is to complete design for a water storage tank, to increase available on-site water storage supporting the water loading station at the STAR School campus. Our scope includes: 🔷 Project management 🔷 Site visits to understand the current system and meet with operators 🔷 Geotechnical investigation to inform tank foundation design (led by Western Technologies) 🔷 Civil design including general site layout and grading plans 🔷 Mechanical design, including yard piping to modify the existing piping configuration, and tank sizing and design 🔷 Electrical design to detail how the new infrastructure will connect to solar and generator power on site (led by Electrical Energy Systems Engineering) 🔷 Bid package preparation for general contractor selection #CivilEngineering | #WaterResourcesEngineering | #WaterTank

Why raising a building? To play a trick on the owners? Raising a building with hydraulic jacks can be necessary for several reasons. 💡 It allows for the repair or reinforcement of damaged or unstable foundations, protection against floods by elevating the structure above flood levels, and significant structural modifications such as adding a lower floor or basement. 💡 It also helps correct uneven settling, create new spaces beneath the building, replace inadequate foundations, comply with new building codes or seismic requirements, and facilitate the installation or updating of plumbing, electrical, heating, and cooling systems. Or, much more simply, it can be a nice trick to play on the owners while they are on holiday... In any case, these operations require careful planning and advanced technology to ensure the building's safety and stability: another work for structural engineers! 📹 by Patterson Shoring #structuralengineering #engineering #engineer #technology For more: 📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering 📌 Click on the 🔔and select “All”

Dear friends, In last few years of our professional working in the area of Structural Audit and Retrofitting design of buildings... we find that mainly two reasons/ aspects are responsible for the requirements of Structural interventions: 1. Buildings distress due to reinforcement corrosion (due to design and/or execution defects and Inappropriate maintenance) and 2. Inappropriate construction (inadequate foundation size, improper Structural system etc.) causing settlement and other structural cracks. Due to above and other misc reasons, the existing buildings are getting unsafe for habitation within a very short time after construction... I envision to develop a nationwide network of competent Civil and Structural Engineers who are trained to understand the condition of building and be able to guide owners to follow correct methodologies and materials for the required interventions ... so that the buildings live a good useful life at minimum costs of repairs/ maintenance and thus participate for the overall efforts of sustainability... I would welcome your suggestions on this and would like to know professionals who are willing to participate volunteer for this cause... Thanks...

Providing an exceptional customer experience restoring property and businesses back to pre-loss condition. Mitigation Remediation Disaster Recovery Management. WRT • FSRT • IICRC • Water Fire Mold Business Continuity Pro
Hey restoration nation! I think we all can agree that understanding and navigating building codes is critical when performing large loss commercial projects. Question: How do you convert an old 100 amp breaker into a modern standardized 200 panel Answer: Probably best to get a bid from an electrical contractor who can pull the permits and perform the job. Then apply on your O&P. DYK! Commercial buildings have high electrical loads that compel higher building code standards. The typical residential building has 15 to 20 AMP services. A commercial building can have 200 AMP services or more. Industrial buildings, with 800 to 5000 AMP services, have even higher building code standards. Feedback and ideas are welcomed and appreciated! #riskmanagement #CRE #businesscontinuity #engineering #project #management #vendormanagement #environmental #generalcontractor
