This month, Fetch returned to Birmingham, Alabama for our third annual Juneteenth Commemoration. Our Black at Fetch employee resource group built upon the theme of “Embracing the Golden Legacy of Black Excellence,” to create an engaging, celebratory and educational set of events for our staff. Fetch colleagues from across the country participated in a historical walking tour of the Civil Right District, a Black Excellence tech panel and a BBQ that highlighted local Black-owned restaurants. These events helped us honor this historic day and deepen our understanding of its significance. Thank you to everyone who organized and participated in making this year’s commemoration a memorable and meaningful experience.

February is Black History Month. This is the time we reflect on the profound contributions of the Black community, recognizing them not only as moments in history but as ongoing chapters shaping our collective narrative. In the realms of technology and beyond, Black Americans have been trailblazers, weaving a tapestry of resilience and innovation. Their stories are not just a celebration of past achievements but a call to acknowledge the systemic challenges they've faced and continue to overcome. As we commemorate this month, we commit to fostering an inclusive work environment that actively dismantles barriers, amplifies diverse voices, and embraces the full spectrum of human potential. Personally, I take pride in being part of Kyndryl, a company where a sense of belonging and inclusiveness are prioritized. It is within such environments that we can collectively contribute to honoring the legacy of the past while actively shaping a more just and equitable future for all. Together each one of us empowers human progress! #poweringhumanprogress #kyndryl #heartofprogress #kyndrylinclusivenetwork #KIN https://lnkd.in/dQAFVWuW

Award Winning Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Lead | Inclusive Hiring | Advisory Board Member | Cultural Ambassador | Impact Driven Changemaker
A few weeks ago I attended Black Tech Fest for the first time, and it was such a great event. For one, I have never seen so many black professionals in one room. I saw a few familiar faces, but also so many new ones. The speakers spoke on a variety of topics, but main my takeaways were: ✨ Companies need to reinvest in their talent pipeline through early careers. The key is to get involved as early as possible, from Secondary school to A-levels, to uni etc. Early placements require investment, but the ROI will be strong ✨ Companies need to better utilise apprenticeships to retrain existing employees in skills that will be needed in the next few years ✨ Clear learning pathways are needed to build individual and collective skills for the future ✨ We need to be curious! Research and utilise online tools to better anticipate disruptive trends ✨ Companies NEED a diverse powerhouse. It isn't enough to have diversity at entry level ✨ It's important for inclusive organisations to have a presence at events curated for marginalised communities, to be involved in creative space for them and allowing them to truly be seen The detail that the organisers paid to everything, from the food vendors, to the DJ, and even to the products lefts in the bathrooms for people to use (as referenced in the video clip). It was so obvious to see that black people were involved with the planning and running of the event, and it was very well done. In the Black History Month theme of 'Saluting Our Sisters', I want to give a massive shout out to my family Folayemi Adebayo and others involved in putting this together. It was a really well planned and run event. Looking forward to attending again next year

5 Days into February, I’ve yet to see a post acknowledging or celebrating the beginning of Black History Month. A 2021 Zippia found that only 7% of tech jobs were held by Black employees. [Link in Comments] That number has likely decreased incrementally in the wave of the many layoffs the industry has experienced. If you have the opportunity and privilege to hold a leadership position, I encourage you to seek opportunities to lift black and brown voices. Don’t know how to do it? Great! Ask for help. Throw in the comments: what is something you like to do or are planning to do to celebrate Black History Month and lift Black and Brown voices up? #deib #blackhistorymonth #leadership

In celebrating Black History Month, NorthBay Health invited a number of our Excellent Black leaders to share thoughts on a variety of topics. Today meet Kerry Harris, Nutrition Services Production & Retail Manager who answers the question: How do you see your role impacting diversity and inclusion in our workplace? I feel that fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace stands as a cornerstone of effective leadership. As a manager, I recognize the paramount importance of cultivating an environment where every team member feels not just welcomed, but empowered to contribute meaningfully. Championing diversity, equity, and inclusion enables us not only to broaden our perspectives but also to encourage others to embrace and celebrate our differences. As a leader I feel that it's my responsibility to actively foster an inclusive workplace culture wherein every employee feels valued and respected. Promoting open communication, actively listening to diverse viewpoints, and leveraging our unique differences offer us opportunities for mutual learning and growth. Ultimately, I strive to build teams that harness the power of diversity to optimize our collective effectiveness. I also believe that the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and its sub-committee at NorthBay are playing a crucial role in highlighting the history and unique attributes of various cultures, enabling others to engage and educate themselves.

To honour Black History Month, we celebrate the vibrant heritage, legacies, and invaluable contributions of Black leaders that shape Canada’s cultural tapestry. It's a time not only for reflection but also for action against systemic racism that persists in our society. At Sobeys, we're committed to fostering an environment of inclusivity and equity, recognizing that our journey towards greater representation and inclusion is ongoing. In August 2020, we outlined five key priorities to drive our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) efforts forward, including our participation in the BlackNorth Initiative Pledge. Throughout this month and beyond, we're dedicated to advancing inclusion through various avenues: - Partnering with organizations like the BCRC Montreal, BlackNorth Initiative, and Onyx Initiative to promote inclusive employment opportunities. - Supporting early career paths through scholarships, internships, and partnerships with academic institutions such as the Black Business Initiative and BlackNorth Initiative. - Nurturing black-owned businesses in our supply chain, prioritizing intentional sourcing and development to amplify diversity. Fostering open dialogue and collaboration through initiatives like Open Doors, Inclusion Activators, and Speak Freely programs. - Continuously monitoring progress and accountability through data insights to drive meaningful change. This Black History Month, let's recommit ourselves to building a more inclusive and equitable future, where diversity is celebrated, and everyone feels like they belong. Together, we can create meaningful change. For more details on our commitment to DE&I, visit our sustainable business report: https://sobeyssbreport.com #BlackHistoryMonth #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #SobeysCommunity #Familynurturingfamilies

Celebrating Black History Month by Looking Back to Move Forward Hey there, young one, If I could reach across the years, I'd tell you about the incredible journey you're about to embark on. Growing up in a town where faces like ours were few and far between, you might feel like you stand out more than you fit in. But trust me, that uniqueness is your superpower. You, the eldest of five, will learn the strength of unity and love early on. Your siblings will become your lifelong friends, teaching you lessons in patience, leadership, and the power of familial bonds. Remember those days walking the halls as the only Black kid among your classmates? They'll teach you resilience, courage, and the importance of standing tall. And guess what? Your peers will see the light in you, too, voting you most likely to succeed. Spoiler alert: You absolutely do! Your heart will lead you to social work, where your passion for helping others turns into a fulfilling career. And just before you think you've reached your peak, you'll venture further, completing a master's in instructional design and technology. Your thirst for knowledge and growth knows no bounds. The hundreds of youth you've helped navigate their mental health journeys? They're just the start. Your work in workplace learning will touch countless lives, boosting performances and shaping futures. And as you mentor and coach in the L&D field, you'll realize that your impact extends far beyond what you ever imagined. But amidst all these accomplishments, the roles that will fill your heart the most are those of a husband and father. The love, laughter, and lessons shared will be your greatest achievement and joy. So, to my younger self, know this: Your journey will be one of impact, inspiration, and immense love. The road might not always be easy, but it will be worth it. You'll make us proud. Here's to our journey, our history, and the many chapters yet to be written. Happy Black History Month! #BlackHistoryMonth #Journey #Inspiration #Achievement

Update: We hired a talented Black person to join the Black Onyx Management team at this event. Today I had the absolute privilege to be in a room full of talented young Black professionals seeking to advance their careers through mentoring relationships as part of Business Equity for Indy’s partnership with Mentors of Color. CICP’s Kristen Lampkin did an excellent job of conceiving and pulling this event together. We talked about pursuing “blisters” instead of passions, sponsorship vs. mentorship and other career advice. I learned so much from my interactions with these talented Black up and comers. As a Black CEO I was proud to be able to offer an internship to one young man on the spot and plan to speak with another attendee about another opportunity with my company. A truth that we don’t talk about like we should is that too often Black talent in this city has to go to another city to get their next opportunity. This happens at the same time the corporate community underutilizes Black talent. I distinctly recall going to the HR Director at a former employer and telling him I felt underutilized and had the ability to do so much more. He told me that my job was my job. I left no too long after. As we see a surge in black business formation my hope is that Black CEOs get a chance to connect with the talent I saw today. The fullest potential of my companies will only grow as fast as I can retain and develop talent. Candidly, none of my operations are limited to Indianapolis. Being in this room today made me reimagine my prospects in this city.

This week, we continue our Black History Month celebration by reflecting on the strides made toward economic equality and examining how we can address systemic inequality through earnings. On average, Black men earn $0.87 for every $1.00 their White counterparts make, and for Black women, it drops to $0.63. Earnings signify more than just a paycheck—they embody opportunities for growth and empowerment. At NABA Inc., we're dedicated to empowering Black Business Leaders through programs like MONN and WONN, paid internships, and CPA Bound, among others. As you leverage those opportunities, here are tips to maximize your success and earning potential: ▪️ Invest in Education: Continuous learning and self-improvement is not just one of NABA's operating principles. It is also the key to staying competitive in today's dynamic job market. ▪️ Advocate for Fair Compensation: Know your value and negotiate confidently, equipping yourself with industry standards and market rates. ▪️ Seek Networking and Mentorship Opportunities: Forge relationships with mentors and peers through events like NABA's convention and expo and regional conferences. ▪️ Pursue Advanced Opportunities: Consider specialized training or advanced degrees. Programs like CPA Bound can pave the way for higher-paying roles. As we embark on a journey to get four steps closer to building Black wealth through education, earnings, enterprise and entrepreneurship this Black History Month, we encourage you to explore our programs to support you in maximizing your earning potential at nabainc.org/resources/.
