Hazelnuts characterise the unique taste of many of Ferrero’s products. Hazelnuts come from hazel trees, which grow mainly in Mediterranean-type climates. Our expertise and tradition with this fruit go back to our roots in Alba and the Langhe region in Piedmont, Italy, where Ferrero was founded in 1946. Today, we receive our hazelnuts from different locations and we want to ensure they are sourced following good agricultural and social practices. This is why traceability is fundamental to us. At Ferrero, we care about the ingredients that go into the products of each brand you have come to know and love. We do not simply buy ingredients – we carefully select, manage and aim to create value across our supply chains. Tracing our raw materials such as cocoa or hazelnut back to their origin helps us to understand how they are produced. We are proud to announce the launch of our annual Cocoa Charter Progress Report. In our latest report, some of our achievements include: 🍫 93% traceable cocoa with polygon mapping, a way to know the boundary of the cocoa farm 🌳 50,000 farmers received targeted support to improve farming practices 📖 25 schools built or renovated (133 in total by 2023) We aim to be a driving force in a cocoa sector where production creates value for all: where the livelihoods of farming communities are improved; children's right are respected; and the environment is protected through sustainable agricultural practices. Cocoa is one of our main ingredients in the products you know and love. Making traceability a priority means that we can better understand where our cocoa comes from and under which conditions it's produced, so we can effectively manage and nurture our supply chain. Not only have we reached 93% traceability to farm level, but we've also created programmes that help support our farmers by improving their cocoa farming practices, diversifying their income as well as strengthening their communities. Over 40 countries produce palm oil, with Malaysia and Indonesia accounting for around 85% of global production. Malaysia is therefore one of our key regions for promoting sustainable practices. We work closely with the not-for-profit organisation, Earthworm Foundation, where we focus on creating better supply chain conditions for people and nature as well as adopting responsible and ethical labour practices. We are also a part of a project, which encourages palm oil producers to adopt biodiversity conservation practices, establish habitats for beneficial insects, and reduce the usage of synthetic pesticides.
