President and CEO, Patti Habeck stopped by FOX 11's Living with Amy to talk more about the ongoing 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘒𝘪𝘥𝘴, 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘚𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳 campaign, which helps ensure kids have the fuel they need to have a happy, healthy summer. 🌞⚾️🍉 We are often asked, "What can we do to help?" and the answer is quite simple: Food, Funds, and Friends! • 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱: Shop for healthy, shelf-stable food items and bring them to our Milwaukee or Appleton campuses or donate them directly to your local food pantry. • 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀: $1 equals 4 meals thanks in part to the wonderful relationships we have with local growers, retailers, and manufacturers which allow us to purchase fresh food in bulk. Donate today at https://lnkd.in/gJZ-fu8h. • 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀: Our volunteers truly make an impact in helping us distribute food to nearly 400 partner pantries. We NEED YOUR HELP to as we rise to the challenge of serving an increasing number of our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. We are a small, grassroots (read: tight budget!) nonprofit aiming to improve our food pantry to better meet our neighbors' immediate need of emergency food assistance. To achieve that, we must comply with necessary food safety standard. One component entails acquiring 10-12 SIX-FOOT FOLDING TABLES. Does your organization have one to spare or are you able to help us with a financial donation towards the purchase of new tables? All support is impactful! If you would like to contribute $, $$, or $$$ to our goal, please CLICK HERE: https://bit.ly/3FPFCMB

Did you know that instead of purchasing food at retail rates, we collaborate with the California Association of Food Banks, major retailers, USDA government assistance programs, growers, distributors and fellow food banks to secure wholesome food? When you contribute financially, you enable us to offer a greater quantity of nutritious groceries compared to donating store-bought food. 🥑 Thanks to our capacity to harness large-scale food donations, bulk purchasing capabilities, and the dedication of volunteers, every $1 donation empowers us to supply enough food for two meals. Help us fill tables this holiday season and beyond. If we can raise $1,000,000 from our community between now and December 25, The Benificus Foundation will match the amount. Falling 🍁 into Compassion: Support Your Local Food Banks This Autumn 🍂 As the leaves start to fall, there's a feeling of renewal in the fall season. It's the perfect time to harness that spirit of giving and make a meaningful impact on your community. One powerful way to do that? By supporting your local food banks directly or donating to ensure there is enough food to go around. 1. Season of Harvest: Autumn is the season of harvest. Food banks play a crucial role in bridging the gap between abundance and need. Donating fresh produce or non-perishables or money can ensure that everyone can enjoy the flavors of fall. 2. Back to School and Hunger: For many families, back-to-school expenses strain their budgets. Sadly, this can mean some children go to school hungry. Your donations can provide nutritious meals, making sure young minds have the fuel they need to thrive. 3. Thanksgiving for All: Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude and togetherness. By donating, you're helping families create memories around the dinner table. Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy a warm and hearty Thanksgiving meal. 4. The Power of Community: Donating food or funds to food banks isn't just about sustenance; it's about coming together as a community to lift each other up. Your contribution, no matter the size, makes a collective impact. So, this fall, let's embrace the spirit of the season and extend a helping hand. Together, we can ensure that no one in our community goes hungry, and everyone can enjoy the beauty of autumn. Visit our site and donate now, and be the change. ❔❔Did You Know....❔❔ Our donations are made possible because of the food rescue programs larger organizations like Midwest Food Bank manage so that we can feed our community. 🌿 Donated items come in the form of: Close-dated items: Products that are close to their expiration date and don't have enough time to reach store shelves. Overruns: Extra products made beyond what was forecasted, often cheaper to keep the production line running. Mislabeled items: Products with packaging errors, like missing ingredients or allergen information. Relabeling is too costly, but we have the volunteer resources to repack and relabel these items. Damaged or discontinued goods: Items with damaged packaging or products that are no longer sold in stores. -Midwest Food Bank: How Midwest Food Bank and Our Partners Fight Food Waste Together You can donate too! This diverse group of people trust me to lead them! Active Duty, retirees, spouses, civil service employees working together to process 5000 pounds of food, package and distribute in less than two hours! Food insecurity is at an all time high and here are a few tips on how YOU can help: 👉🏼 Reduce food waste -- according to the USDA 30-40% of food in our nation goes to waste! Understand food labels are for QUALITY not for SAFETY (except baby formula). Find the nearest food bank and ask what their donation requirements are. Most will gladly take your donation, reducing food waste and helping others! 👉🏼 Volunteer or donate food in and outside of the holiday months! SUMMER months are often overlooked while many nonprofits are providing additional food for children out of school typically relying on free school meal programs. 👉🏼 Volunteer for Meals on Wheels or similar programs for those who can't physically get to a food bank! https://lnkd.in/dhqYeAUe https://lnkd.in/dJ9BYRdt. #combatingfoodinsecurity #EVERYone #helpyourneighbor

In our 2023 Annual Report, we take a look at trends at FISH over the past few years, particularly comparing pre-pandemic numbers to today. What we are seeing is continued growth in need, as the high cost of living paired with fewer support resources adds more and more strain for families. One area in which we have seen considerable increases is the pounds of food we distribute each year. In 2023, FISH distributed 1,560,603 pounds of food, more than any other year in our history as an organization. Our marketplace could not run without the generous support of our community. We source food from four main sources: donations from our Broomfield grocery stores and restaurant partners, Community Food Share, in-kind donations from our neighbors (which includes food drives!), and purchased food made possible by our incredible donors and by grant funding. All of these support networks allow us to stock a variety of food and personal care items for our families so they can shop for what their families need. Tomorrow, September 1st, is #NationalFoodBankDay! Sustainable communities provide additional services to residents in need, such as food banks that assist the nearly 11% of Americans dealing with food insecurity. These organizations cannot survive without the help and support of local residents and businesses who donate food, money, and volunteer time. This weekend (or any weekend really!), take one of these steps to support your local food bank: 🍅 Have a home garden with more zucchini, cucumbers, or tomatoes you could possibly eat??? Don't let them turn to mush; donate them! 🍝 Have some extra ingredients in the pantry from that recipe you never made (and probably won't)??? Don't ignore them until they expire; donate them! 💲 Notice a sale on some pantry staples or a family fave at the grocery store??? Pick up some extras and donate! The steps above not only help neighbors in need but also help prevent food waste. Win-Win! Visit this link to find a food bank in your area where you can volunteer or donate food or funds: https://foodfinder.us/ #FoodBanks #SustainableCommunities #FoodInsecurity #DonateFood #Volunteer #PreventFoodWaste #SupportLocalFoodBanks #CommunityAction

Food security is one of the most basic needs.
According to a new report issued by Feeding America, nearly 130,000 people in southwestern Wisconsin experience food insecurity—a 47% increase from the previous year. This means that 1 in 10 of our neighbors don't have enough to eat, and don't know where their next meal will come from. Nutritious food belongs to us all, and each of us can play a role in ending hunger in southwestern Wisconsin. Donate, volunteer, advocate–or start your own food drive!
