The impact on a family's health and budget can be enormous. Purchasing food daily rather than doing a big shop means not only higher costs, but also facing a struggle to buy nutritious food for growing children. That's why our HMP Addiewell Visitor Centre team did everything they could to help a family in need get a much needed new fridge freezer. The Cyrenians team applied to the @BBCChildreninNeed Emergency Essentials Fund on their behalf and within a week, their new appliance was up and running. As we come together to celebrate Independence Day, let's also prioritize our health and safety. Enjoying the festivities doesn't mean we should overlook the importance of public health. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water, especially if you're spending time outdoors. Practice Sun Safety: Use sunscreen, wear hats, and seek shade to protect against UV rays. Fireworks Safety: Handle fireworks responsibly and supervise children to prevent injuries. Healthy Gatherings: If you're hosting or attending a gathering, consider food safety to avoid foodborne illnesses.

Community cat care tip 🐈 When feeding cats, do not leave the food out for too long. After about 30 minutes, bugs will start to show up. Pick up any uneaten food after roughly 45 minutes, leaving a little more time for the slow eaters. Learn more at alleycat.org/BestPractices

📊| Food Research & Action Center Did you miss this? The Food Research & Action Center published the new report called "The State of Healthy School Meals for All: California, Massachusetts, Maine, Nevada and Vermont Lead the Way". What were the key findings? - School lunch participation in #California, #Maine, #Massachusetts, #Nevada, and #Vermont — the five states that implemented Healthy School Meals for All policies during the 2022–2023 school year — increased compared to pre-pandemic participation levels. - Student breakfast participation increased in four of the five states but not as dramatically as lunch participation, showing there is still room for growth in the School Breakfast Program. - The response to Healthy School Meals for All policies has been positive, with state child nutrition agencies noting many benefits to providing school meals at no cost to all families and public opinion polling showing broad support. To learn more, read the full report that was shared by Dr. Amberley Ruetz, PhD!
🇺🇸🫐 "#HealthySchoolMealsforAll has allowed Massachusetts to increase participation⬆️, expand #FarmtoSchool🚜, address staff shortages👩🍳, replace aging equipment🍳 and enhance #scratchcooking🥘. All of this is helping to revolutionize menus and change opinions about the nutritional quality of school meals.” — Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 📚 NEW REPORT: Food Research & Action Center's first report on the State of Healthy School Meals for All Policies by Alexis Bylander, Crystal FitzSimons and Clarissa Hayes. https://lnkd.in/gXcvAWgT

It's important to remember that fighting over food is not the way to win in the long run. The key is to establish a trusting and healthy relationship with food. Children need to feel secure and confident that their basic needs are being taken care of. Compromising without turning mealtime into a battleground is crucial. #Nevada #foodtime #KinshipCaregivers #StrengtheningFamilies #KinshipFamilies #GrandFamilies

Did you know that during Mardi Gras parades, the need for emergency care doubles? As the vibrant floats and lively crowds move through the streets, the excitement can sometimes lead to minor injuries or health issues. Here are some tips to help you and your family avoid injuries during Mardi Gras: 🎉 1️⃣ Wear comfortable shoes for all the walking that can be thrown away at the end of the season. 👟 2️⃣ Be cautious around floats - never reach under them or jump in front of one. Keep your feet away from the wheels and maintain a safe distance from marching bands. 🎺 3️⃣ If using a ladder to get a better view, place it at least six feet from the curb and have someone hold it steady. 🪜 4️⃣ Keep your head up and watch out for throws. Don't lean down to grab them as it could put you at risk of falling or getting injured. And remember, don't throw things back towards float riders! 👀 5️⃣ Watch your step on curbs, uneven roads, and sidewalks - especially if alcohol is involved or if it's raining. ⚠️ Read more safety tips at the link below and have an amazing time celebrating!
