With only about 55 available workers for every 100 jobs, Minnesota continues to have a very tight talent pool. Today, Senior Director of Strategic Research Erin Olson spent the morning with the LISC Twin Cities Financial Opportunity Center peer network to explore current labor market trends in the Hennepin and Ramsey County job market. We took a look at some of the most high-demand, high-wage gateway occupations in five critical sectors (Manufacturing, Technology, the Trades, Education, and Caring Careers) and thought deeply about the current mix of career pathways offered at local organizations, the career paths that local jobseekers take, and where alignment can be improved. #workforce #workingtogether

In Alabama, we're not just watching the future of work unfold – we're actively shaping it with the Talent Development Marketplace. This innovative approach is redefining how we view employment and training in a rapidly evolving job market. Why It Matters: The gap between job skills and available opportunities has been a persistent challenge, particularly in the wake of the pandemic. Alabama's solution? A dynamic platform that aligns skills with real-world job needs, moving beyond traditional employment models. The Strategy: It's all about connection and customization. The Talent Development Marketplace doesn't just link job seekers to employers; it revolutionizes how education and training programs are designed. It’s a targeted approach, creating tailored programs that directly meet employer demands and equip job seekers with the exact skills they need. The Impact: This initiative is breaking down the barriers of conventional career paths. It's not about where you learned, but what you can do with what you've learned. By focusing on skills rather than just degrees or titles, we're opening doors to a wealth of untapped potential - from veterans to gig workers and everyone in between. The Vision: We're turning Alabama into a hub where skills, training, and job opportunities aren't just available – they're interconnected. This is where career aspirations meet real-world demand, where education directly fuels economic growth. Join us as we lead the charge in creating a workforce that's not just prepared for the future but is actively DRIVING IT FORWARD. Learn More: https://buff.ly/47ofcgs

Crazy the places Hubble on demand can take you. We were back in London, under the same roof as my previous employer, where I got to catch up with my old teammate Tom Webster! Also got to throw a few darts with Jonny Gabriel, though I don’t think we'll be playing in Ally Palley anytime soon… It's unreal to think about Luke Littler, who defied the odds to win the Premier League Darts despite his age and lack of experience. His victory shows how talent and skill can outshine traditional metrics like experience and degrees. Similar to a skills-based approach to hiring, which focuses on what candidates can do rather than their past roles or education. By valuing skills and potential, we can discover and nurture exceptional talent that might otherwise be overlooked. 'Checkout' the comments to learn more about skills based hiring. #HR #skills

When I was the manager of a small telecommunications call center at FSU over two decades ago, I did a lot of hiring for what would be considered "entry level" positions. Nobody who applied was coming in with call center and/or telecommunications experience, so my focus was always on their transferable skills: communication, teamwork, customer service, leadership, organizational skills, etc. I continue to focus heavily on these skills today. The Florida Chamber of Commerce just released their Florida Workforce Needs Study 2.0, and there's an entire section on the Soft Skills Gap and how employers are grappling with this. Do you think the soft skills/transferable skills/essential skills gap is increasing? https://lnkd.in/gFH7GW-3 #career #essentialskills #softskills
