#98PercentBlackSponsored! Thank you Inclusion Champions Awards sponsors! Your donation in kind and financial support made a big difference to our impactful event We want to recognize that our awards gala was 98% sponsored by #BlackFoundedOrganization. This comes as a result of little to no funding available for all Black run organizations. Most times, members of the Black organizations have to dig into their pockets to fund their own programs or impactful community causes that they deeply care about! Our hope at ICC is that, with the help of big funders/sponsors and donors we can change this reality and make even a bigger impact in our society. We urge the Government of Canada, Government of Alberta, United Way of Calgary and Area, Calgary Foundation, Calgary Economic Development, Rotary Club of Calgary, Downtown, City of Calgary, Africa Centre, Foundation for Black Communities , Black Business Initiative and other private donors to consider Immigrant Champions of Canada (ICC) in their next rounds of funding to help us continue providing cultural centric career services to our African Black and Caribbean youths and adults as well as settlement services to the underserved ABC communities in Calgary. We also urge funders to consider our vital contributions as Black people in the addressing of the Black socioeconomic challenges that have plagued our communities for decades, despite funding being routed to non-Black found and non-Black run organizations to solve our challenges that are clearly and directly related to our distinct cultural identities. This lack of funding is true across all Black led organizations in Calgary yet the work we do is both important and impactful! We believe that, it is time to #FundBlackOrganizations #FundBlackGrassrootOrganizations #InclusionChampionsAwards #InclusiveOrganizations #InclusiveProfessionals #InclisiveLeaders Thank you Capability Career Group - (CCG) Calgary African Community Collective (CACC) , Ellie Bianca Beauty, TD , The Tanya Eklund Group, RE/MAX Real Estate Central, Ruth's House Society, Osuji & Smith Lawyers, Indire Entertainment Inc. & MUT consulting services

Happy National Black Business Month!!! Scroll down to find out why our founder believes it is important to support black-owned businesses, and what advice she has to give to fellow African Americans aspiring to become business owners. "Supporting Black-owned businesses is crucial for creating a more equitable and vibrant economy. With my being 1st generation in starting my own business, it was challenging and sometimes lonely to navigate. However, the mission of making the Arts accessible to children, helped me to remain laser-focused and proved rewarding. Supporting businesses like mine not only contributes to economic diversity and innovation but also helps address systemic inequalities by creating job opportunities and wealth within underrepresented communities. Programs like mine play a pivotal role in preserving cultural heritage and promoting inclusive growth which I am proud of. For African Americans venturing into entrepreneurship, my advice is to embrace your unique perspective as a strength. Build a strong network of mentors and peers who can offer guidance and support. Stay resilient in the face of challenges. Your determination, creativity, and cultural insight are valuable assets that can and will make a lasting impact." - Debora Wondercheck #Nonprofit #blackownedbusiness #BlackBusinessMonth #blackwomanownedbusinesses #artsandlearning Debora Wondercheck, M.S., ED

Although Black Business Month has come to an end, the importance of highlighting and supporting Black-owned businesses should be recognized all year round. Today, we're shining a spotlight on Sistahbiz Global Network, a powerful organization dedicated to helping Black women entrepreneurs succeed. Impact Charitable knows the importance Black women play in driving business growth in the U.S., and works to increase their access to critical capital. Curious about the innovative models we used to funnel integrated capital to drive impact? Download our case study and see how we’re helping to close the capital gap for underrepresented entrepreneurs in the U.S. -https://lnkd.in/dYMKgr5S

Everyday, I am trusted by leadership to: Fund Black-led organizations in longer grant cycles, and without restrictions. ✊🏾Understand that financial capital isn't the only way to show your support - other assets (e.g., social capital, time, talent, knowledge, and physical space) can be incredibly helpful. ✊🏾Approach the work with a mindset of care, and consider investing in the wellness of Black leaders. ✊🏾Take a futurist view and rethink risk by focusing on an organization's strengths and potential. #blackhistorymonth #trustbasedphilanthropy #equityfunding #relationshipsmatter
In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, we recommend this The Chronicle of Philanthropy article, which frames our sector as needing "...to play the long game when it comes to racial justice." Cora Daniels shares four pieces of advice for philanthropic funders looking to ensure a healthy future for all Black people: ✊🏾Fund Black-led organizations in longer grant cycles, and without restrictions. ✊🏾Understand that financial capital isn't the only way to show your support - other assets (e.g., social capital, time, talent, knowledge, and physical space) can be incredibly helpful. ✊🏾Approach the work with a mindset of care, and consider investing in the wellness of Black leaders. ✊🏾Take a futurist view and rethink risk by focusing on an organization's strengths and potential. https://buff.ly/3Uy9oOf

Save the date 📅: The Network for the Advancement of Black Communities (NABC) in Canada, along with the Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy (CANRAD) and CS Business Innovations in South Africa, have partnered to deliver a three-part collaborative dialogue series. This series aims to facilitate learning and knowledge exchange between African and Canadian B3 (Black-led, Black-focused, Black-serving) organisations. Join us for our third and final dialogue as we dive deeper into Afrocentric approaches to systems transformation. On 24 July 2024, we will host the next dialogue titled "Moving Towards Transformational Funding Partnerships: Evaluating the Relationships Between Funders and Non-Profits". The dialogue is a platform to learn from and engage in conversations around perspectives, experiences, and lessons when evaluating relationships between funders and the non-profit sector. Stakeholders such as non-profit organizations, the philanthropic sector, development practitioners, government, and others have a role to play in addressing our most pressing societal challenges. Critical questions to address include: What are current partnership practices between funders, recipients, and affected stakeholders? How are these partnerships either hampering or helping us make progress on our efforts toward social change? Are our partnerships simply transactional in nature, or do we need a shift towards transformational partnerships? 🗓 24 JULY 2024 🕓 16h00-19h00 CAT | 10 AM - 1 PM EST 📍 Zoom For registration and more information, please click here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dQAwmPMk

I have a dream. That one day conference organisers will stop inviting Black speakers as an after thought (especially during black history month) and will be more intentional about ensuring their line up of speakers is diverse. That one day, they will be confident to have more than one person of colour on the line up and I might just get to speak with another Black speaker with the same area of expertise on the same panel! 😳😳😳 That one day BAME speakers will be paid equally for their input. That we’ll stop needing to go to ‘listening groups’ run by big charities because they’ll actually listen and do the work! It might just be a dream but one day it might come true! Probably only if I just start organising conferences myself! If you’re organising a conference, especially during Black history month. Please commit to genuinely doing better. It’s not nice being an after thought. #diversity #inclusion #tokenism #education #exclusion
