On paper, the European reports show that 𝑅𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑎 𝑖𝑠 𝑠𝑐𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑙𝑜𝑤 on most of the circular economy pillars of the #EuropeanCommission: 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐫𝐚𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. In practice, in Romania, we paradoxically encounter two completely different scenarios: • The first confirms the reports and shows us that the situation is demoralizing. • The second reveals numerous circular projects that are being successfully implemented locally, but without being visible or included in the official analyses. The latter is the remarkable case we encountered yesterday in Brasov, during the 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐈𝐕𝐎𝐓-𝐂'𝐬 𝐂𝐈𝐑𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐎 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫. This event marked the initiation of a nationwide series of conferences organized in partnership with 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐲. It is a new, foundational step by which we propose to support the rapid and comprehensive adoption and implementation of the circular economy principles outlined in the circular economy action plan, for the 2024-2030 period. I am grateful for the trust and the chance PIVOT-C was given by the 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚 as well as by the 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝-𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 who have embraced our vision even before its inception. It's an honor to have you onboard our vision! More details about the kick-off → 𝐡𝐭𝐭𝐩𝐬://𝐛𝐢𝐭.𝐥𝐲/𝟒𝐚𝐇𝐡𝐡𝐖𝐁 I'll keep you posted as we go along with our enthusiastic and ambitious plan forward! #𝐶𝑖𝑟𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑜 #𝐸𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑚𝑖𝑒𝐶𝑖𝑟𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑎 #𝐶𝑖𝑟𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟𝐸𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑚𝑦 #𝐺𝑜𝐺𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑛 #𝐿𝑎𝑢𝑛𝑐ℎ #𝐸𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡 #𝑃𝑖𝑣𝑜𝑡𝐶 #𝑅𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑎𝑛𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑦 #𝑅𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑎𝑛𝐺𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡

Weekly Friday Personal Post: Thank you CanTech International magazine for the opportunity to keynote Asia CanTech in Bangkok last week! My talk was titled "Building a New Era of Global Can Industry Partnerships." I called for metal can industry associations around the world to work together to understand, communicate about, and improve the can's sustainability story. We need to do this so that we ensure the metal can is seen as meeting consumer demands, helping customers (i.e., beverage companies) meet their sustainability goals, and being part of solving the world's problems. My organization, Can Manufacturers Institute, views partnerships as key to executing on our programs and achievements that advance the metal can industry. I reviewed CMI's partnerships in the U.S. and globally so the audience knew about CMI's latest work and to hopefully inspire others to start similar partnerships. I believe there's opportunity for further global partnership in policy/advocacy, addressing global challenges like decarbonization, and consistent communications. Asia CanTech afforded me the opportunity to meet many people and organizations based in the region. It was helpful for me to hear their perspectives and insights. I also hope many of them can attend the 2024 Global Aluminium Can Sustainability Summit that we'll be organizing next year. In addition to meeting new professionals in the can industry, I enjoyed re-connecting with CMI members such as Alex Folloso of INX International Ink Co., Jennifer Bogs of Crown Holdings, Inc., and Emily Mullins of Henkel. I also learned a lot from the many presentations and talking with those in the exhibit hall. Adrine Thiban Arokiamsamy of Crown Holdings, Inc. gave the other keynote on a recent analysis that Australian Aluminium Council, Crown, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), and Novelis co-funded under the leadership of International Aluminium Institute that looked into aluminum beverage can recycling rates in Australia, Cambodia, South Korea, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam and how to increase those rates. See link in the comments for more on this research. It was a privilege to attend this event and to spend time in Thailand. I hope to attend again in the future! #sustainability #associations #partnerships
