CEO & Founder at Black Women In Business, Global Brand & Success Coach, Motivational Speaker, Community Advocate, Brawny Giant Honoree, Oprah Daily Honoree, 2022 I AM AUSTIN WOMAN, Elles International Women Documentary
Texas Bankers Association, Sunflower Bank, N.A. and Black Women In Business took our first history making “step” in March of this year to present the Community Investment Program: Small Business Success Series, and it has been a huge success! The four-part series is designed to help entrepreneurs get a better grip on their finances to positively impact the future of their businesses. Financial education, banking direction and access to more capital are three key factors in the success of businesses or the lack thereof. Black entrepreneurs are much more likely to rely on personal funds and credit to finance their businesses. This is due in part to barriers to attain bank loans and other sources of institutional capital, but it is also the result of staggering inequalities. Our goal is to do our part to help change the “game.” Rod Griffin, Senior Director, Consumer Education and Advocacy for Experian was our presenter for the evening. Our topic was “Making The Change From Personal to Business Credit and Understanding Scores.” This 26 year Experian MVP brought his ‘A’ game! Thanks, Rod! I would also like to thank, Donna Day, Central Texas Regional Market President and her Sunflower Bank Team for opening their doors for BWIB. The investment speaks volumes to the mission of your leadership and bank. Thank you, Mary Lange, VP of Texas Banker’s Association for having a desire to ‘create’ a stronger relationship with not only Black entrepreneurs, but the Black community as a whole. In order to change the game, we must first be willing to understand it from the perspectives of those who it impacts. Your support and leadership are greatly appreciated. We Are Better Together. #businessbanking #newvision #credit #finances #experian #bwib #community #blackownedbusinesses #watchthework

A new Black-owned financial institution could emerge west of Texas! The investment group Redemption Holding Co. (RHC), led by former White House Policy Advisor Ashley D. Bell, wants to acquire Holladay Bank & Trust in Holladay, UT, per an outlet. If approved, the Utah financial institution will be renamed Redemption Bank and become the only Minority Depository Institution west of Texas. "All of us require a bank to operate, and the reality was there was no Black-owned bank that we could sit on top of to operate with the way we're currently constructed," Bell told The Sacramento Observer. Alongside Bell will be Dr. Bernice A. King, the youngest child of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King. Per The Wall Street Journal, she will join the bank's advisory board and serve as the senior vice president for impact banking. NOTICE TO ALL PRINCIPAL PROPERTY PRACTITIONERS: COMMENCEMENT OF THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING A BEE CERTIFICATE Principal property practitioners are reminded that, in terms of section 50(a)(x) of the Property Practitioners Act, 22 of 2019 (PPA), the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA) may not issue a fidelity fund certificate to any person who is not in possession of a valid BEE certificate. Existing principal property practitioners are, therefore, advised that it is essential that they have been issued with, and are in possession of, a valid BEE certificate prior to the renewal date of any fidelity fund certiifcate currently held. New applicants will, of course, be required, in addition to the other prescribed registration requirements, to provide satisfactory evidence that they are in possession of a Black Economic Empowerment (BEE)certificate before a valid fidelity fund certiifcate may be issued to them. Therefore, it is imperative that existing principal property practitioners commence the process of obtaining a BEE certificate as soon as possible. The PPRA is committed to ensuring and expediting positive transformation within the property sector so as to reflect the demographics of a democratic South Africa. The PPRA, to this end, is mandated to enforce and assess measures that actively promote an inclusive and integrated property sector and being in possession of a valid BEE certificate is but one of the necessary means to the attainment of this essential imperative. We will conduct a webinar in due course and provide guidance to all stakeholders. Issued by: Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority Date: 13 February 2024

On April 23, 2024, Celeste Giordano from Women of Community Impact talked with me on the WCEG Network about Financial Literacy and why it’s so important for women in particular. Although we recognize Financial Literacy in April, every month should be Financial Literacy Month!! https://lnkd.in/eh4U2hTy

NBIC's Sips & Strategies: Empowering Entrepreneurs through Financial Literacy Earlier this month, NBIC hosted a successful Sips & Strategies event, kicking off with a powerful presentation on protecting your assets by Shanna Johnson of Truist. This valuable session equipped entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools to safeguard their financial well-being. Lechelle Moore, CFP® and @Chris Moore also delivered an insightful talk on "Writing a Love Letter to Your Family," emphasizing the importance of financial planning for future generations. This resonated deeply with our mission at NBIC, as we strive to empower entrepreneurs to build wealth and ensure its legacy. February is Black History Month, and at NBIC, we celebrate by making history every day. We are dedicated to scaling companies owned by minorities and closing the wealth gap. While many entrepreneurs achieve financial success, understanding how to protect and pass on their wealth can be a challenge. We are grateful for community partners like Truist and UBS who share our commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and building generational wealth. Together, we can create a brighter future for our communities. Truist Wealth Angela Conner Johnny B.
