The Virginia Mental Health Access Program (VMAP) helps providers in two main ways. The first is through the VMAP Line, and the second is through educational opportunities, most of which also give you a chance to earn CME credits or MOC points! #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #HealthcareProfessionals #MedicalEducation #ProviderSupport #VMAP

Post 1 of 2 on a key health inequalities topic that we can do something about through Integrated Care Systems. It's absolutely possible to reduce the 15-20 years life expectancy gap for people living with severe mental illness (SMI) through better physical health checks, healthy living support, and prescribing medication that does least harm to CVD markers. But it takes more than just putting it into QOF and expecting patients to turn up for their annual check. Outreach is key. This excellent report from Centre for Mental Health showcases 14 great examples of progress made across the country that others should emulate #Sheffield #Doncaster #BirminghamandSolihull #ThurrockandBrentwood #Somerset #Northumberland #Manchester #Suffolk #BedfordshireLutonandMiltonKeynes #Dorset #Hillingdon #Hull #KentandMedway #Shropshire #SMIOutreach #Centreformentalhealth #EquallyWellUK https://lnkd.in/e7ddW6YE

This is actions over words when it comes to states promising to work towards the mental health crisis in our nation. This is what hope looks like- even in a village of tiny homes- this is taking steps to validate the needs of patients at UNC Psychiatry. Not only have they created what seems like the first humane living community for folx with severe mental illness, they are one of only a few hospitals in all 50 states who have inpatient units that care for mothers/birthing persons needing emergency treatment for severe perinatal mood & anxiety disorders, allowing the babies to stay on unit, cared for by nursing staff, without disruption of the mother-infant bond. #upmc in Pittsburgh would do well to follow suit! BRAVO UNC Psychiatry, and North Carolina. #mentalhealthmatters #uncpsychiatry #endthestigma #perinatalmentalhealth #practicewhatyoupreach #putyourmoneywhereyourmouthis #upmcputsprofitoverpeople #Blackmothersmatter #maternalmortality #blacklivesmatter #pittsburgh
Unique Tiny Homes Village Aims to Help People Facing Mental Illness On the sprawling 40-acre therapeutic farm just outside Chapel Hill, crews are finished constructing a different kind of residential community: a village of 15 tiny homes made for people living with serious mental illnesses or on a fixed income. The Tiny Homes Village is located at the Farm at Penny Lane, managed by the Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health. This location will also include community amenities that foster activities and interactions among residents, such as a clubhouse, walking trails and an outdoor pavilion. Access to healthy food, meaningful daily activities, transportation and physical health and behavioral health services are also provided here. The village's first residents will be moving in this Spring. https://lnkd.in/ezHqsbCT

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲. It’s a concept often banded about, but when we think about it, #community is of core importance for all of us. Whether it’s our family, friends, sports team, local parents group, university club – 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑤𝑒 𝑓𝑒𝑒𝑙 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑤𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑟. Togetherall is a community all its own, where typical aspects of our identities aren't actually part of the equation. Individuals on Togetherall connect through experiences and feelings. Everyone is anonymous and all members are free to express themselves in a safe and judgement-free space; their struggles of the day, their challenges with a mental health condition, their issues with home or family, or something that they simply don't feel comfortable discussing with their inner circle. It’s a unique place, overseen by licensed #mentalhealth practitioners, 24/7/365, meaning that anyone can log on at any time, post what they’re going through and/or respond to someone else, and always have the safeguarding of clinical oversight. 🌼 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥.
