#futurebattery 1.0, what a great forum! 1.0 for us because it was my (and Ralf Klaassen's) and therefore Celestica's first attendendance of that forum. Meeting existing clients, discussing new partnership models in a - still -emerging market (at least in Europe when comparing to Asia) and on top of that, learning about new technologies and trends was extremely interesting and delivered many insights in multiple aspects. Two of my personal highlights: learning about StoreDot and their silicon based battery technology, an almost revolutionary step, aiming mainly at the EV sector (congratulations to Dr. Doron Myersdorf for a very compelling presentation).  And ElevenEs with their first LFP cell "Made in Europe" and their aim to localize the entire supply chain, for a broad range of applications. Very interesting move in the journey of economic decentralization related to a key technology. The essence of the forum: many interesting technologies and chemistries in development, lot's of investments to boost further market developments through gigafactories, each and every technology with its pro's and con's for certain applications. A major factor of whether a product or technology is going to be adopted by the market and becoming successful is certainly the chosen chemistry and the respective sources, but not less important is the consideration of e.g. stability or better to say, predictability of the legislation and regulatory aspects, geopolitical considerations and logistics in every phase of the value chain which - among many other variables - will influence the existing and future production location decisions (whether this is for the cell manufacturing, the battery pack production or the final assembly for the targeted market) 👉 the GBA Battery Passport is coming! Exciting times in front of us!

A collaborative effort between German and American scientists, spearheaded by the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Leibniz IPHT), has resulted in an innovative manufacturing technique. This novel approach involves a process called molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), which enables precise control over materials and growth conditions, resulting in custom semiconductor thin films with specific properties, such as tailored bandgaps or crystal structures. Additionally, the scalability of this technique for mass production makes it suitable for commercial use. Applications span from the advancement of solar cell efficiency to the creation of high-performance transistors, potentially revolutionising the renewable energy and computing industries.

The exchange #platform is intended to serve the development of market-oriented, technical research and development projects in the #future. The Fraunhofer ILT is looking for industrial #partners and companies for this purpose. 🤝 The first step is to define a #roadmap for the needs of the market. Subsequently, current research and development topics relating to laser processes for #fuelcells and #electrolyzers will be discussed and new research alliances will be formed. The focus will be on the entire #processchain. However, topics outside of photonics or hydrogen will also be considered. For #cleantech innovators, transitioning from concept to commercialization is no small feat. It took Sila more than a decade to safely harness the properties of silicon for commercial use in #batteries. Several years ago, we were the first to introduce a nano-composite silicon anode into the market to power innovation within consumer devices. Today, we’re building-out our first automotive-scale manufacturing plant to produce enough of our Titan Silicon anode to power millions of #EVs. Getting to this point required significant increases in product scale and investment, as well as proof of commercial success. And this is typical for other new clean energy #technologies. COnovate, Inc., an #earlystage company based on University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee research, is developing new #battery 🔋 technologies that could offer faster charging and more storage capacity. Strategy and Commercial Support Lead Jeff Moore presented on the company yesterday during a Wisconsin Technology Council meeting in Madison. #COnovate is developing a “remarkable fundamentally distinct” material called #graphenemonoxide, he said, describing it as a highly stable, solid form of #carbonmonoxide. “It has a number of intriguing properties,” he said. “It’s strong and flexible, more so than #graphene, firmly conductive, and also a semiconductor.
