Mohammed Mabkhot may have left the Intelligent Automation Centre for pastures new, but right up until the last minute before he left, he was still busy representing the work of the centre. 😊 During the first week of June, Mohammed presented the latest paper on the IRaaS project at the 57th CIRP Conference on Circular Manufacturing Systems (#CIRPCMS2024) held in the beautiful city of Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal. He presented his research work titled "Technical and System Requirements for Industrial Robot-as-a-Service (IRaaS)". The paper outlined the functional and non-functional requirements needed to implement IRaaS, focusing on flexibility, ease of deployment, cost-effectiveness, and safety. The work that Mohammed and his co-authors have been doing helps crystallise several servitised robotic concepts, prioritising functionalities of different models of these concepts as well as selecting the most suitable technologies for delivering the robotic concepts' functionalities to the shop floor. It also outlines multiple research challenges and directions from the robotic servitisation perspective. If this is a subject that is of particular interest to you please feel free to message Mohammed M. Mabkhot directly. Niels Lohse, Peter Kinnell, Wen-Hua Chen, Michael Henshaw, Masoud Sotoodeh Bahraini, Cong Sun, Myles Flanagan, Matthew Coombes and Yalei Yu also co-authored the paper. #IRaaS #Industry40 #Robotics #SMEs #Automation #Servitisation

Don't miss our next info webinar in July! Check out our Expression of interest and get the support you need make the most of the ARISE open call starting in autumn. #ARISE_HRI #funding #robotics #manufacturing #intraLogistics #Healthcare #testing #experimentation #OpenCall #ExpressionOfInterest
💡You have a great idea and want to stay ahead of your competitors? The ARISE - advancing industrial HRI consortium is happy to announce the Expression of Interest - the initial phase of the project’s 1st Open Call for full proposals from consortia that will be launched in autumn 2024. The Open Call will support you with up to EUR 200,000 in your pilot on HRI-enabled solutions for industrial robotics automation. 🧩The main objective of being an applicant of the Expression of Interest is to become validated as a fitting end-user or technology provider of the projects submitted for the open call. 🧩This validation ensures that a successful consortium can be created during the 1st ARISE Open Call as the list of validated end-users will be published for those applying. In this first open call, ARISE will fund up to 13 projects for HRI-enabled solutions for industrial robotics automation and up to EUR 200,000 will be distributed to each one of the selected projects, based upon the successful delivery of technical and business reports along the 12-months support program. Did this spark your curiosity? I'm thrilled to announce that I will present our paper, "EM-Patroller: Entropy Maximized Multi-Robot Patrolling With Steady State Distribution Approximation," at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2024 in Yokohama, Japan, this Wednesday (13:30-15:00, Paper WeBT4-CC.5). This work, published in IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, introduces a novel approach to the multi-robot patrolling problem that optimizes efficiency and coverage through entropy maximization. It’s a joint effort between A*STAR, MIT, and NUS. Multi-robot patrolling (MuRP) has application potential in various scenarios, such as surveillance and vigilance for regional security and hazardous environment monitoring. However, Existing MuRP solutions either involve high computational complexity for the global optimal solution or rely on heuristics for approximate solutions without performance guarantees. To bridge the gap, we propose the Entropy-Maximized Patroller (EM-Patroller), which guarantees per-iteration performance improvement and has polynomial computational complexity. Join us at the presentation and the poster session to explore how we can extend these capabilities in robotic systems. Excited to share our findings and engage with the community! #Robotics #Automation #IEEE #MultiRobotSystems #Innovation #Research #Engineering #ICRA2024
