Crossroads College and Career has helped hundreds of students get to college and get money to pay for college. We have helped students gain internships while they are in college, and have also helped them secure their first full-time position after college. We hosted a webinar yesterday for students and parents…no one showed up. We have proven results, but people don’t see the value in investing in their child through paying for our services to put them on a path to success. I remember someone on here, who’s child got into one of the top HBCUs. At the time, we had 6 young men go through the same college, of which I drove 2 of them to the college to ask for more scholarship money and helped a third craft an email that got him a full ride, but because we don’t guarantee scholarships, this parent chose to NOT use me. Unfortunately, his child did not end up at that top HBCU. What we guarantee is, if your child listens to us, completes all the applications we send their way, they will be successful. I have been a scholarship reviewer for Gates Scholarship (yes, Bill Gates), for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and countless other organizations. I know what needs to go in an essay. I know what a college application needs to look like, as I have gotten students accepted into more than 125 colleges and universities. Public, private, Top 8, and HBCUs. Do yourself a favor and watch this 5 min video and then message me for a consultation. I promise my prices aren’t nearly as high as this man….not even 10% of what he’s charging, and he’s only helping students get into their dream school. https://lnkd.in/eqwq69Za

Excited to share the Inc. Magazine article below about how NYC Department of Education is working differently with employers to ensure that the ~1M public school students in our city are prepared and on a path to become the talent pipeline for high wage, high growth, and high demand jobs of the future, AND that our employer partners are prepared to support these young people as they begin their careers. What's the #1 reason why students drop out of college? If a student from a low-wealth background has to choose between taking classes or working, the financial needs of the student and the student's family usually win. Come to Believe is laser-focused on this problem, and that's why we insist our two-year colleges include employer relations officers to help place students in jobs and paid internships while they are enrolled in school. Supporting students find and keep jobs results in higher retention and graduation rates and meaningful income for the student and family. Read this quick take from Inside Higher Ed on the opportunity cost of going to college. This is one of the barriers preventing students from being successful in school; this is one of the barriers the CTB model addresses.

This is a great opportunity to bring awareness of manufacturing career pathways to a very important influencer group: teachers. This program allows teachers to connect practical applications in manufacturing to the topics they are teaching. Put another way, when a math teacher is asked by students “when am I ever going to use algebra in real life?” … this will provide an opportunity to answer that question by connecting its practical use to a real world example: manufacturing.
Attention Manufacturers! Workforce Solutions Capital Area in partnership with Region 13 Education Service Center is pleased to announce their 2024 Summer Educator Externship program and invite companies to register today. Deadline to register is May 10! Interested in hosting externs this summer? What if we could start over and try something totally new? A wonderful summary of some innovative high school programs across the country, including: ✅ schools with hyper career-focused tracks from day one ✅ schools with blended online and on-campus experiences with college classes and career prep internships ✅ schools with internships as key components of the school-day All of these school models share the belief that school does not need to be the 7-period, brick and mortar experience in order to help our young people get a strong start in adult life.

ICYMI: As summer ends so do #SummerJobs but their impact on youth continues throughout the school year and beyond! Read my short article in @EducationNext with @RichardJPaulsen to find out more! We provide experimental evidence from the Boston Summer Youth Employment Program, where students were enrolled in the program via random lottery to work in local city agencies, businesses, and nonprofits, as seasonal workers in parks, day camps, and other local organizations. Youth who receive job offers are 7% more likely to graduate high school on time & 22% less likely to drop out within a year. Their school attendance & GPA ⬆️ due to better work habits, soft skills, & college aspirations. These long-term benefits outweigh program costs by 2 to 1. After World War 2, North Carolina opened many community colleges across the state, offering evening classes to returning veterans. One of them was in Charlotte, which morphed and grew, eventually becoming part of the UNC system in 1965. Today, the University of North Carolina Charlotte is a contained, urban campus serving 24,000 undergraduates and 6000 grad students. They've built 13 new buildings in the past 7 years and it is the fastest growing university in the UNC system. The university has 8 colleges with many different majors. I was told, in fact, that the College of Arts and Sciences just split into the College of Science and the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Science. This is not even yet reflected on the website. I can't help but wonder if this is in anticipation of future growth. Nursing is very popular here, with a 94% NCLEX pass rate, and UNC Charlotte is the #1 producer of Computer Science degrees for women in the state of North Carolina. Engineering is also very strong here; it's the largest engineering school in the Southeast. But despite that, engineering students are usually in classes of 18 to 24 students. Business is also very strong. Here's a fun fact: Charlotte is the second largest banking and financial center in the US after Wall Street. Who knew? So internships and job opportunities abound for students pursuing careers in banking and finance. UNC charlotte is also one of only 2 universities in the state that offer an accredited architecture program. Nursing, Engineering, Computer Science, and Business are the most competitive majors to apply into, and if you don't make the cut, you may be placed into the University College for those who are undecided. So if you don't get your first-choice major, you can still be admitted. With an out-of-state all-in cost of $33-35,000 per year, UNC Charlotte is an enormous value. But be aware: students must apply for housing immediately after their acceptance in order to ensure that they have housing freshmen year, even if they'reaccepted as early as the fall. If they decide to enroll elsewhere later, they lose their housing deposit, but a least they'll be assured of housing should they choose to attend!

As the summer season draws to a close, so does the chapter of summer employment for teenagers nationwide. Did you know that early workplace experiences, such as summer jobs, contribute to a higher likelihood of high school graduation and improved GPAs? For further insights, delve into the research by Alicia Modestino and Richard Paulsen in Education Nextcwhere they show the benefits of seasonal jobs, particularly for those from low-income neighborhoods with few job opportunities nearby. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dc8XxQvj
